Background Information:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Linux System Administrator/Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office.  


IDT is seeking a Linux System Administrator/Engineer that will maintain, design, and deploy Linux based systems. You must be highly competent in Linux environments and be able to work with a rapidly moving system. Responsibilities will focus on the development of solutions that further IDT’s goals of leveraging virtualization to deliver capability to the warfighter faster. S/he will work with senior leadership and a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers to solve some of the Navy’s toughest challenges. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain, design, and deploy complex Linux based environments
  • Build/update Linux distributions
  • Interact with technical team members from multiple organizations in a team environment
  • Provide engineering level documentation to enable testing and reporting

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. MA degree in engineering or other technical field highly desired.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator Certification
  • 2 years of experience in an IT field is required; 4 years’ experience in Linux systems highly preferred

Required Skills:

  • Linux Kernel development – deep understanding of the kernel build process and file structure
  • High degree of competence in C, Bash, and Shell
  • Ability to build and maintain virtual machines
  • Experience with NFS, iSCSI, FTP, SSH, SCP, LDAP, BASH, IP, TCP, UDP, NTP, DNS, DHCP
  • Demonstrated ability to shift from one project to another in an agile work environment
  • Ability to communicate technical approaches and details within small project teams, including team interaction and presentations
  • Ability to capture technical approaches, designs, block diagrams, algorithms, and implementations in written and graphical form
  • Ability to travel approximately 5%

Preferred Skills:

  • Networking protocol experience (802.11, TCP, UDP, ICMP)
  • Ansible, Chef, Salt, or Puppet experience
  • Experience in programing languages such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript
