The Role

This position is integral in ensuring that the Hunter Douglas Installers and Dealers have certification programs that are robust and will provide them with the training they need and training that will continue to emphasize a luxury experience for all our customers. This role has high visibility across the organization and will interact with all aspects of the business. You will get to express your creativity and delve into a variety of tasks from event management, project management, planning, to instructional and curriculum design, and you will even work with creating marketing videos for the certification programs. Acceptable Training and Experience

  • Advanced degree in Training, Marketing, or Business (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience conducting learning needs analysis and designing curricula, primarily for scaled eLearning programs.
  • Experience in instructional design with a focus on blended learning.
  • Leadership experience within a work team environment is required.
  • Proven experience in successful project management and team management is required.
  • Prior public speaking experience is required.
  • A demonstrated willingness to pursue continuing education in the area of product information, presentation techniques and training is required.
  • Demonstrates interest in current and emerging adult learning theory and how it is put into practice in corporate learning.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing business needs. Must be results-focused.

The Job

Functions as the company’s subject matter expert on all training certifications, curricula and learning paths relating to Hunter Douglas products and corporate training programs.  Responsible for shaping the curriculum and certification strategy that supports Hunter Douglas products and programs.  Build relationships with cross-functional product team members to assess audience needs and design the right content and supporting assets.  Work with these outside groups and internal product groups to develop comprehensive, creative certifications, curricula and learning paths for the full scope of each program. Will direct all aspects of their programs, from initial idea and development to execution.  

  • Research and analyze training options, delivery methods and techniques; design and develop content for different delivery platforms - instructor led for classroom, eLearning, self-paced web based training and performance support tools
  • Oversee the design and integration of technical, customer service, sales, marketing and leadership classes into a comprehensive curriculum for each training function.
  • Conduct research via a thorough needs-analysis process and consultation with cross-functional stakeholders to identify learning needs.
  • Develop a comprehensive, end-to-end view of the competencies and skills required by learners to develop the behaviors that will drive progress against business metrics.
  • Partner with the Instructional Design team to advise and guide on the development of all product content. Ensure that learning content meets business requirements and that content is standards driven, high quality, educationally sound, and meets the needs of the customers we serve.
  • Develop training objectives, goals and strategy based on the needs of user groups and create training plans, paths, certifications, assessments and curriculums.
  • Strategize and organize the various certification programs that exist and create synergy and consistency between the various programs. Create logical strategies and both long and short term goals for existing and new certifications programs.
  • Manage recertification requirements – set parameters and expectations, coordinate content creation, align learning expectations, deliver assessments, create calendars, provide communication, reports and awards.
  • Present and deliver material on the various programs to user groups when and as needed. Create both live and online training, tutorials, and resources for the programs. Conduct marketing and training sessions as needed.
  • Manage any and all communication and marketing regarding certifications, curricula and learning paths within Hunter Douglas.
  • Work with technology support (MIS, IT, Vendors) to create support systems and reports for programs assigned. Be able to utilize available database as well as current LMS when necessary to track effectiveness of programs. Provide extensive analysis and communication on certifications, curricula and learning paths to support effectiveness and deficit.  In addition, thoroughly understand how bundled learning fits in the current LMS.


  • Establish project timelines for each article of material associated with the development of the training Certification, curricula and learning paths. Manage due dates with Learning and Development members and external consultants assisting on the project so that established due dates can be met. Use project management tools and concepts to deliver project on time.
  • Manage program budget. Issue all PRs and POs through proper channels.  Understand budgetary needs and analyze costs.  Be able to provide cost analysis.
  • Manage evaluation procedures to measure success rates of programs. Be able to report on success and analyze failures.  Use metrics to identify areas of opportunity for increasing user comprehension, product adoption, and issue resolution.


  • Manage and communicate effectively with the Training Coordinators for individual certification, curricula and learning paths. Work to establish database needs, customer expectations, payment types, communication regarding attendee lists, marketing material distribution, evaluations, etc.
  • Coordinate specific teams that are created to bring projects to completion. Team members can include Learning and Development staff, product groups, corporate, Consumer Support, PBS, vendors and any other experts as needed. Lead and engage with individuals across all functions of the organization, be confident in addressing personnel as it relates to timelines, project scope, learning opportunities, etc.


  • In depth knowledge of entire HD product line to include: installation, repairs, design options, applications, construction, and motorization options. This expertise will be utilized on the front end of programs and product development (exp: attending engineering meetings, beta tests, motorization development, marketing brainstorming, and internet strategies).
  • Need to know all supporting materials: sample book, reference guide, and other tools that support the product line.
  • All HD business building programs to include: marketing promotions, internet strategies, website development, merchandising, programs, WTTW, hiring and firing guides, color and design trends, and any other additions as created.
  • Expertise required on current training trends – staying on top of methods for innovation and training – software, new methodologies, delivery mediums (tablets, iPads, etc), and video. Responsible for keeping HD on the cutting edge of training innovations.

  • Expert knowledge of project management, delegation, problem-solving, business sense and editorial experience
  • Expert knowledge of how to research content for new learning topics
  • Expert knowledge to utilize creative thinking and problem solving techniques to resolve problems encountered on a daily basis.
  • Expert knowledge of computer applications Excel, Articulate, audio editing software, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat
  • Expert knowledge in e-learning design and development, multimedia production, graphic design, LMS administration, vILT (webinar) production, and face-to-face facilitation
  • Solid knowledge to lead multiple large and complex projects with shifting deadlines
  • Solid Knowledge in adult learning training principles to include instructional design and eLearning.
  • Solid Knowledge in training mediums and audience interaction in various mediums
  • Solid Knowledge in presentations in both live and on line environments. Ability to both present and facilitate discussions.
  • Solid knowledge of supervisory principles
  • Solid knowledge of both synchronous and non-synchronous training methods
  • Solid knowledge of evaluation techniques
  • Solid knowledge of correct grammar usage to compose and proofread training materials for spelling, sentence construction and punctuation errors.
  • Solid knowledge of social and digital media.
