Sales Training Manager

The Role:

Window coverings are surprisingly complex.  Hunter Douglas has extensive product offerings, with varied lifting systems, including a solution to integrate with innovative connected home technology.  It takes a knowledgeable sales team to understand, and communicate, the intricacies of our products.  This role will be critical in evaluating, refreshing, developing, maintaining, and delivering engaging training initiatives for our sales teams.

 

About You:

You have a background in field sales with some learning and development expertise.  You are comfortable presenting to a large crowd or a more intimate one.  You’re creative, a skilled problem solver. Above all else, you have a positive outlook and you aren’t afraid to try new things.  You enjoy being part of a collaborative team.  You will have an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective, solve challenging problems, and provide input on the strategic vision for the sales training team. 

 

Acceptable Experience and Training:

A degree in Training, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Marketing, or Business, along with 6-9 years’ experience within the window fashions industry as a sales representative, decorator or Designer. Previous experience with Hunter Douglas is highly desirable. Leadership experience within a work team environment is required. Prior public speaking experience and delivering presentations required. A demonstrated willingness to pursue continuing education and research in the area of adult education, software and technology, production information, presentation techniques, and training is required. Extensive domestic travel with irregular work hours is required in this position.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Coordinate with sales team leadership and administrators regarding onboarding of new sales personnel including coordination of schedules, online and face to face training programs. Coordinate with regional sales leadership and learning and development leadership to create a customized training agenda for their new hires. 

 

Coordinate, support and guide sales leadership in identifying new talent, including talent assessments, recruitment and participation in the interview process when applicable.

 

Development of a mentorship program to aid new hire retention and engagement

 

Coordinates new DSM mentor on their role, activities, and process.  Coach mentor as necessary. Maintain open communication with regional sales leadership regarding their new DSMs progress and performance.  

 

Create a partnership with sales leadership to understand and strategize sales training needs based on their current opportunities, trends, and goals.  Use Learning and Development principles to design and develop training content to support the sales division’s success.  Communicate, track and measure sales education to strengthen the partnership and provide guidance for current and continued momentum in sales educational growth. 

 

Identify, suggest and offer multiple modes of technology to support a variety of learning styles based on the needed outcome. Be an advocate for state-of-the-art technology to ensure the sales team is receiving platforms that will support their role. 

 

Maintain and communicate regularly with key stakeholders regarding the progress of the sales training, including new hire training, maintenance training, and unique training opportunities, which should include metrics and short/long term strategy and solution.

 

Develop training material content with SMEs using adult learning concepts to include but not limited to scriptwriting, PPT, visual support, packaging, and delivery.

 

Present and deliver material as needed.  Act as moderator and trainer during the course of training sessions. Interact during the presentation with attendees to address and respond to product and program inquiries both online, webcast and instructor lead.

 

Provide performance feedback to trainees and managers by observing and monitoring training progress as well as developing follow up coaching, setting expectations, and testing.

 

Establishes project timelines for the development of the training programs. Manage due dates.  Use project management tools and reporting to deliver project on time and make sure trainees’ complete assignments within allotted time

 

In depth knowledge of Hunter Douglas product line and supporting materials such as sample books, reference guide, and other tools that support the product line.

 

In depth knowledge of Hunter Douglas business building programs to include: marketing, promotions, Alliance programs such as The Link, merchandising, WTTW and window covering retailer business operations and process.

Expert knowledge of project management and the ability to coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints.

Expert knowledge of product competition and what is being done by Hunter Douglas to maintain our standing in the industry.

Expert knowledge of computer uses and applications.

Expert knowledge of technology available to deliver training

Expert knowledge of research principles to explore content for new learning topics.

Solid knowledge of applying principles of adult learning theory to design and delivery

Solid knowledge of supervisory principles

Solid knowledge of evaluation techniques

Solid knowledge of the business operations of the window fashion industry.

Solid knowledge of correct grammar usage.

Ability to learn new training content and master subject matter

Ability to use and operate various audiovisual equipment.
