The Product Manager develops strategic product plans to meet market needs and company objectives. Leads cross-functional product team in developing and executing product programs to achieve stated objectives regarding revenue, profitability, and market share for all phases of the product lifecycle. Conducts and reviews market research. Establishes product pricing strategy and monitors margin and profit targets. Provides input in the development of product sampling and collateral to reflect appropriate positioning within the respective market channels. Oversees all technical support and product communications. 

Essential Functions

  • Gains and continues to maintain a thorough knowledge of assigned product categories as well as the competitive landscape
  • Gains and continues to maintain a thorough understanding of the distribution channels in which products compete, along with the accounts within these channels
  • Conducts and/or reviews market research to determine product needs and market potential
  • Works with sales management to estimate potential sales and market opportunities, distribution/channel issues
Strategic Planning
  • Actively participates in setting the basic strategic direction for assigned product lines, and is accountable for sales volume and profitability
  • Develops strategic short-and long-term product marketing plans to meet market needs and company objectives
  • Drafts Business Cases and provides financial and technical justification for product selection and definition, and submits to executive management for approval
  • Works with Channel Managers to investigate, recommend, and implement innovative programs to gain market share and promote growth
Product & Program Development
  • Develops and executes product programs to achieve stated objectives regarding revenue, profitability, and market share for all phases of the product lifecycle
  • Drafts and submits proposals on SKU mix, design and functionality of assigned product lines
  • Serves as team leader managing new product, and product enhancement projects
  • Maintains various timelines for product projects; ensures that all schedules involved with product development and project timelines are realistic and achievable. Makes necessary adjustments to timelines as needed. 
  • Works with outside vendors, supply chain management, purchasing, and production to identify, qualify, and finalize all product materials and components
  • Drafts Product Scopes and works with engineering and production to conduct all required testing, and finalize bills of materials, technical information, and product specifications
  • Provides IT with all required information and support to ensure programs are properly configured in SAP system and order configurators
  • Provide guidance to production planning associates, to maintain targeted inventory and service levels
  • Work closely with plant QC supervisors and product engineering to make changes to improve quality as needed
  • Works with Channel Managers to develop product pricing that is appropriately positioned within the channel and meets company objectives
  • Reviews product profitability reports on an ongoing basis to ensure company margin and profit targets are achieved and maintained
  • Works with Channel Managers to develop accurate product sales forecasts
  • Assist VP of Marketing in preparing the marketing budget, and monitoring performance on an ongoing basis
  • Participates, along with marketing team members, in establishing marketing plans for new product rollouts
  • Provides input in the development and execution of price guides as well as effective merchandising and selling tools to support assigned products
  • Works with sales and management team to recommend and support the implementation of product promotions to help achieve company objectives
Customer Support/Communication
  • Communicates all changes, updates, and new product/program information to internal personnel and customers as appropriate
  • Guides Product Specialist in providing day-to-day product and program support to sales team, customer service, production, and customers to answer questions, clarify information and resolve issues
  • Develops and delivers product and program presentation to the sales team, customer service, and current as well as potential customers as needed
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field required
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in product management, preferably in consumer products
  • Very proficient in Windows-based software packages - Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Strong analytical ability, understanding of the principles of finance, cost/pricing structures, margin analysis
  • Superior motivational/team building and leadership skills
  • High degree of creativity and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel as necessary - up to 50%
