Senior Design Manager / HPM
Description
The Senior Design Manager is responsible for creating, implementing and improving processes that assure optimal information exchanges with designers with an aim toward pushing the with an aim toward pushing the company’s quality assurance as early into the development of a project as possible. This person will oversee drawing and model reviews to help clarify design goals and work to fill in design information gaps for our teams while also acting as a helpful communicator of the needs and demands of our processes to our design partners. This role will collaborate closely with our preconstruction teams in support of effective model-based quantities and facilitating target-value design. This role will require travel to job sites and divisional offices up to 25% of the time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate project drawings, models, and specifications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project objectives, quality requirements and
applicable codes and standards. - Identify and resolve discrepancies, oversights, or other issues in the drawings and models in coordination with the project teams. Assist in fostering a relationship with
owner and project teams to establish an atmosphere of trust and partnership. - Generate reports and markups to provide recommendations for improvements and modifications to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure that models for use by our project teams accurately represent the architectural intent while also complying with construction-level project goals and company
standards. - Work with program/project management teams assisting with budget reviews especially regarding design elements and owner expectations.
- Participate in coordination meetings to resolve conflicts and ensure seamless integration of architectural elements with other disciplines.
- Assist preconstruction teams in developing preliminary conceptual designs for feasibility and order-of-magnitude budgeting for target-value design, then as projects move
forward, providing design input for cost estimates, and production-loaded location-based project schedules — often utilizing model-based quantities. - Provide architectural expertise during the bidding process, including reviewing bid documents and providing clarifications to trade partners.
- Contribute to value engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising design integrity.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with owners, project teams, and design partners to help facilitate smooth workflow and project delivery, especially on designbuild, design-assist, or integrated project delivery projects.
- Attend high priority project meetings and site visits when necessary to monitor progress and address any architecture-related issues.
- Help ensure that architectural planning, details, systems, and material applications adhere to industry standards, owner expectations, and regulatory requirements while
accomplishing desired project outcomes. - Conduct quality control checks on architectural deliverables to maintain high standards of accuracy and consistency, alongside checks being performed by others in the
QA/QC Department with focuses on building envelope systems and MEPF systems. - Provide design quality and process training for project teams as needed
Preferred Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Engineering
Preferred Experience
- 5–7 years of architectural design practice experience, design-build experience, or preconstruction experience; with additional or parallel experience in BIM, design and
construction technology, project management, and/or construction administration. - Knowledge of Autodesk model authoring and coordination software (such as Revit, Navisworks, and/or Assemble), along with Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Familiarity with Revizto and Microsoft Project
- Familiarity with structural design and construction practices and principles
