Responsibilities:

Supporting H+K Toronto, GCI Canada and SJR

  • Serve as an advisor/counsel to all colleagues by handling questions, and interpreting policies
  • Act as the primary contact for Toronto General Manager(s), Group Leaders and people managers in dealing with a broad range of human resources policies and procedures, and employee relation matters, balancing company and employee needs
  • Counsel leaders on the effective use of professional development plans, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and risk mitigated termination decisions
  • Provided data analysis, interpretation and guidance to the leadership team on employee engagement survey results, presenting results and conducting focus groups in Toronto, working collaboratively with leadership to address areas of improvement and implement change
  • Provide advice to senior leadership and employees regarding all areas of talent, including leave administration, disability management, policy interpretation, recruitment initiatives, learning and professional development, performance management and employee relations
  • Assist in the exit interview process by conducting exit interviews with departing employees and ensuring data is properly captured in HRIS system for analysis
  • Work in collaboration with the Vice president of HR on employee relations issues that require escalation
  • Proactively provides relevant and timely information to key internal clients (e.g. salary data reports, rewards and recognition)
  • Deliver quality HR policies, programs and procedures, and constantly review the methods of delivery to ensure that they are best in class, affordable and appropriate to the needs of the business
  • Assess HR processes and contribute to continuous improvements and best practices to influence human resources processes, strategies, culture and engagement
  • Participate in HR initiatives and make presentations on human resources-related matters across the national offices
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and company policies
  • Assists in the implementation of the performance evaluation process across Canada for all levels
  • Assists in the development and updating of job descriptions, in collaboration with others for all roles across functional areas, and with the assistance of the vice president develop new job descriptions when the need arises
  • Overall accountability for the full-cycle recruitment and selection process in Toronto for consulting and operations staff to ensure effective workforce planning, providing advice to hiring managers and assisting in resource planning
  • Provide guidance on compensation decisions for new hires, lateral moves, promotions, off-cycle changes, merit, and market adjustments
  • Provides support to VP of HR in various HR programs
  • Assisting in compiling relative HR metrics, analyzing, reporting and identifying trends
  • Work collaboratively with the HR team to develop objectives and work plans and share knowledge and expertise
  • Support the development, implementation and evaluation of HR programs

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least five years of full-time working experience in an HR role, preferably in a consulting or agency environment
  • Experience with employee relations, performance management and human resources policies and programs
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic coupled with a client-centric approach to service
  • Self-directed with the ability to organize, plan, prioritize and multi-task
  • High level of follow-through
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices
  • A commitment to continuous learning
  • Effective team player, results-oriented and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent organization skills; ability to prioritize, handle competing tasks and thrive on meeting urgent deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • College diploma or university degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent
  • Bilingual in both French and English considered an asset
  • Experience in maintaining confidential HR files
  • Solid knowledge and proficiency in MS Office, Microsoft Outlook and Word, Excel and PowerPoint
