PBX Phone Operator - Hewing Hotel

Hewing Hotel, located in the North Loop of Minneapolis, has an opening for a PBX Phone Operator in our Front Office Department.

While Minneapolis presents a plethora of hospitality options, none tap into the local culture to create importance and significance beyond the business traveler. Hewing Hotel occupies the historic Jackson Building, originally built in 1897, at the gateway to the Warehouse District, immediately tying it to local culture. 

Job Requirements:

  • Responsible for answering the hotel phone according to hotel standards– provide answers to questions, take hotel or restaurant reservations, and take In-room dining orders
  • Speaks clearly, distinctly, and with a friendly, courteous tone
  • Accurately directs incoming calls to guest rooms, hotel personnel, or departments
  • Takes and distributes messages for guests, provides information on guest services and/or public hotel events
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
  • Has proficient knowledge of hotel POS and PMS systems
  • Assists in monitoring and posting any necessary charges to guest rooms and house accounts
  • Develop a complete working knowledge of the hotel’s menus, menu ingredients and what is available for the day
  • Follow the established procedures to ensure knowledgeable, correct and efficient order taking, may act as a Room Service order taker and cashier
  • Understands guest service needs and exceed guest expectations by taking advantage of opportunities to add a special touch
  • Understand and maintain a daily cover count for the restaurant
  • Record all guest charges, gratuities and cash transactions accurately (as necessary)


Additional Requirements:

  • Good reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • Must have a high school education or equivalent experience
  • Able to work well unsupervised
  • Ability to multitask
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Able to work alone without direct supervision
  • Demonstrate high degree of drive and determination
  • Constantly recommend service and product improvement to better the operation
  • Keep the work area clean and tidy at all times
  • Attend all required meetings
  • Follow proper payroll and uniform procedures
  • Properly handle and report associate and guest accidents
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards
  • Assist with responsibilities and duties in other departments and as assigned by management
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel
