Business Development Analyst

Philadelphia area, PA

Heart + Paw is seeking a Business Development Analyst in the Philadelphia area to be an integral part of our growth strategy related to our Mergers and Acquisition of petcare businesses and veterinary practices on the East Coast.  This position provides a unique blend of investing, financial modeling, auditing, and deal due diligence responsibilities. The Business Development Analyst is a crucial position within the Business Development team and will have a meaningful interaction with the executive team and impact on the company’s overall revenue growth.  A successful candidate must possess a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, strong excel and modeling skills, and a keen interest in private equity and investing in businesses.   This is an excellent fit for an individual with 1-3 years prior experience at a big 4 accounting firm, investment banking, or private equity firm.  MBA is preferred but not required.

  • Maintain and update Salesforce lead information as information is gathered through phone conversations and website research.

Financial Analysis

  • Demonstration of an in-depth understanding and knowledge of financial statements, financial accounting, and investment returns.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to quickly turn around an Excel financial model, conduct a financial analysis identifying inconsistencies in the year over year income statements, payroll reports, and practice management system reports, and clarify questions for the seller.
  • Independently make addback adjustments and document the thought process and logic for the adjustments.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy in the development of financial models that meet best practice standards.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the offer process for each acquisition – including the creation of the investment thesis, 5-year financial projection, deal overview sheets, presentation of the thesis to the internal Heart + Paw team, and the letter of intent to the seller, development of the 10-year cashflow projections using Heart + Paw underwriting assumptions.

Educational Background and Experience

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, experience with Outreach.io and Salesforce preferred
  • Preferred start date - January 2021
