Director of Strategic Marketing

Position Summary:

As a key member of the leadership team, the Marketing Director reports to the Vice President and General Manager and is responsible for driving the development and execution of end market focused strategies and all marketing and product management activities for the division to meet strategic objectives and deliver financial goals.  This position is responsible for a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, technology trends, identification and assessment of significant growth opportunities, and creating and implementing strategies that deliver profitable market share. Nurtures and promotes voice of the customer and opportunity evaluations as the gateway to effective new product/service planning. Work through cross-functional teams to successfully execute new product and program initiatives.

This position will be based in our headquarters in Greenville, SC.


Primary Responsibilities:

 Strategic Planning

  • Partners with the leadership team to develop and execute Annual and Long-Range Plans based on in-depth understanding of market segmentation, market trends, customer needs, and competitive position
  • Directs the development and implementation of product strategies from ideation and concept to end-of-  life management
  • Drive the analysis, conclusions and strategic direction of market research findings, particularly in terms of end-user segmentation, new product development, pricing/positioning, channel and promotional strategies, and channel insights.

 New Product Development

  • Leads and promotes a culture of innovation.  Well-versed in deploying marketing research tools and techniques and stage gate processes.
  • Leads cross-functional teams to drive technology breakthroughs, implement new product development plans, and ensure that plans are delivered on-time and within budget.
  • Develops business cases for new target markets, products, services or customers
  • Works with customers to understand their requirements and develops new opportunities

 Product Portfolio Management and Pricing

  • Manages pricing and develops strategies to maximize profitability and share
  • Works with the sales team to identify and capitalize on opportunities for profitable growth
  • Exceeds financial targets by optimizing the product portfolio through deployment of the ITW Toolbox
  • Alignment of variants to the “80” working with Innovation team

 Marketing Planning

  • Builds and implements marketing plans that grow market share, increase brand equity, create differentiation, and promote solution value proposition
  • Delivers financial commitments through the development and execution of robust commercialization plans
  • Oversee marketing communications programs that supported business objectives
  • Develops and manages marketing budgets to achieve goals

 Team Leadership and Development

  • Leads and develops talent to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness.  Fosters a culture of engagement, cascading vision, and creating goal alignment
  • Coaches through feedback, development planning and performance management
  • Grows marketing management skills such as: portfolio & product management, pricing strategy, and project management of direct reports
  • Builds a strong pipeline of talent to ensure a diverse high performing organization.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Engineering, Business or Marketing disciplines preferred; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive business experience including at least 3 years of product management and/or development experience.  Experience executing in a line discipline (sales, operations, or engineering) preferred.
  • Industrial B2B marketing experience is required; packaging related industries desired.  Individuals with other technical experience may be considered
  • Experience obtaining & translating end user requirements into successful products and / or services required.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills, including price management and market analysis
  • 5+ years of experience motivating, coaching and training a team.
  • Up to 40% travel
