Senior Contracts Manager, Adult Imprints

You will be responsible for drafting and negotiating a wide variety of author agreements (and associated documents) for Hachette Book Groups very active adult imprints across the company, in a variety of book genres. You will work closely with Department Directors and other Senior Managers of the department and will actively manage the work of junior staff members (including handling reviews, assignment of work and facilitation of training needs). This role will also entail participation in technology projects and in devising strategies to streamline workflow, providing guidance and advising editors, as requested. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Drafting and negotiating author agreements and amendments for a wide variety of imprints across the company
  • Drafting and/or reviewing all work-for-hire agreements, including responding to editor queries about such agreements
  • Assigning, reviewing and checking the work of junior staff members and providing mentorship.
  • Drafting (as applicable), reviewing and negotiating third party licenses
  • Reviewing and signing payment requests
  • Reviewing, advising on and approving deal memos/offer terms for editors and publishers
  • Reviewing responses to publishing rights reversion requests (as applicable).
  • Fielding queries from editors, agents and other colleagues
  • Other duties as may reasonably be assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • At least 3-5 years of high performance and autonomous drafting experience and expertise with standard and complex contracts terms
    • Direct experience and comfort negotiating with agents
    • Expertise in word, power point, excel and other standard computer programs (experience with a title management system is a plus, but if not, we’ll show you ours)
    • Good communicator and team player
    • Self motivator and dependable

    The compensation range for this position is $75,000-$80,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
