Managing Editor

The Hachette Book Group is seeking a Managing Editor for its Nashville Publishing division. The Nashville group, consisting of Faith Words, Center Street, and Worthy imprints, publishes about 200 books a year in both adult and children’s categories, specializing in Christian authors across a broad spectrum: inspiration, fiction, Bible study, current events, devotion, leadership, biography, and personal growth. This position reports to the VP, Executive Managing Editor and is based in New York with periodic travel to Franklin, TN. 


  • Work in close partnership with the Nashville publisher and the editorial and art teams on seasonal lists to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts, copy, and sales materials
  • Collaborate with the editorial, art, and production departments to schedule and monitor titles through the entire production process
  • Develop or refine procedures to improve existing workflows and ensure that interdepartmental best practices and standards are in maintained
  • Lead production and other status meetings and participate in various interdepartmental meetings
  • Maintain title data and communicate changes companywide
  • Manage special book projects (bought bounds, third-party packagers) per season, as necessary


  • 5+ years managing editorial experience, preferably in a trade house
  • Experience working with remote teams a plus
  • Solid knowledge of the entire trade publishing process for narrative nonfiction and illustrated genres
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and an ability to work collegially with a variety of stakeholders and with appropriate assertiveness to ensure deadlines are met
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentorship skills
  • Solid organizational skills, with an aptitude for process development and innovation
  • Strong computer/MS Word and Excel skills and knowledge of electronic copyediting and coding
  • Solid copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style (16th and 17th eds.)
