Academic Marketing Manager, Basic Books Group

SUMMARY: 
The Basic Books Group is seeking an Academic Marketing Manager to oversee marketing efforts targeted to academic institutions and higher education professionals. Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing, this role will be responsible for planning and executing academic campaigns for select nonfiction titles across imprints. The successful candidate will easily adapt in an evolving environment, be deadline-driven, have strong communication skills, and thrive in a results-oriented workplace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promote the Basic Books Group’s presence at academic conferences by managing booth reservations, furnishings, displays, materials, and logistics for 3+ academic conferences per year
  • Attend conferences to staff booth as needed
  • Create and manage a master list of annual conferences that includes deadlines for advertising and exhibiting
  • Work with Executive Director of Marketing to plan advertising for select conference programs; manage the production and trafficking of ad creative
  • Oversee and coordinate dozens of “in-house” course adoption email campaigns and report out on results. Work with outside vendor on select premium adoption eblasts.
  • Work closely with authors and editors to identify competitive titles and courses for targeting
  • Work closely with the Hachette Academic and Library team on exam/desk copy reporting
  • Contribute the academic marketing plans to author meeting agendas as appropriate
  • Act as product manager for higher education course adoption database
  • Pulls course adoption data from higher ed database ahead of monthly backlist meetings
  • Compile list of academic librarians, on a seasonal basis, at institutions affiliated with our authors. Share with the Hachette Academic and Library team.
  • Compile list of B&N College locations, on a seasonal basis, at institutions affiliated with our authors. Share with the B&N College sales rep.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Marketing to grow the academic marketing program, set goals, gain new insights, and communicate results to the publisher and other internal stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Strategic thinker
  • 3+ years of academic/scholarly or nonfiction book marketing experience
  • Strong proficiency with email marketing tools (MailChimp preferred)
  • Proficiency with CRM (Braze or HubSpot preferred)
  • Proficiency with WordPress is a plus
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience presenting in front of groups including internal meetings and with outside clients
  • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively

The compensation range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
