Director of Cyber Risk Analytics



As the Director of Cyber Risk Analytics for Guidewire Cyence Risk Analytics, you will be responsible to drive research initiatives to support our market leadership as the preeminent platform for the modeling of cyber risk. You will work closely with various members of the product engineering team, including cyber analysts, data scientists, risk modelers and product managers, to research data sources and develop techniques and assumptions to model new and evolving types of cyber risk. You will also work with other internal and external stakeholders, such as product marketing, sales, customers, and industry analysts, to provide thought leadership on the ability of Cyence solutions to model the evolving cyber-thread landscape. This is a senior role which may or may not involve managing people, but which requires an enthusiastic, results-oriented individual to work cross-functionally.


This position is located at Guidewire corporate headquarters in San Mateo, California.



  • Help define technical requirements and influence the product roadmap to evolve the cyber risk model as well as new areas of product development
  • Lead technical projects spanning cross-functional teams
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on third-party technologies, data sources and vendors to benefit the product and its use cases
  • Recruit and mentor cyber analysts to support the research function
  • Serve as cyber subject-matter expert to both internal and external stakeholders, including the Guidewire management team, customers and prospects, as well as industry analysts and solution partners
  • Author blogs, technical whitepapers, industry articles and other collateral for both technical and non-technical audiences on a range of topics such as new and evolving threats, hypothetical and historical cyber incidents, and techniques for modeling threats
  • Engage in technical conversations with CISOs of customers and prospects to gain their buy-in on the methodologies used to model cyber-risk


Required Skills

  • S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in a cybersecurity role, specifically in areas such as red/blue teams, threat intelligence, vulnerability management, reverse engineering, penetration testing, SOC/incident response
  • Experience with networking, distributed systems and Cloud infrastructure
  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python preferred) and databases (SQL/NoSQL)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Good organizational and project management skills; ability to lead initiatives across different functional teams, using a combination of rational analysis, influence and persuasion
  • Self-driven and able to work with minimum supervision and where there are no clear answers
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good analytic insight, diligence, and a positive attitude

  • Experience with statistics, data science, machine-learning and related technologies
  • Familiarity with cyber-insurance and risk management
  • Published and/or presented at notable security conferences
