We have a phenomenal opportunity to join our legal team at the Motion Content Group (part of GroupM and in turn WPP) for a 6-12 month fixed term contract as our Associate Legal Counsel.

Motion Content Group is a market leading content investment and rights management company. It is primarily engaged in the business of developing, financing, producing, and distributing television content through commercial relationships with a range of broadcasters and media platforms. Motion has produced hundreds of hours of prime-time multi-genre programming, working with over 60 different independent production companies across 11 channels and numerous broadcasters globally. It has over 100 shows in active distribution.

About this role:

Motion Content Group is looking to recruit a solicitor / lawyer to join the legal and business affairs team to assist with its production and distribution business.  

In this role you will work with internal teams and external partners (broadcasters, producers, and distributors) to draft and negotiate development, co-production, commissioning and distribution agreements. In addition, you will assist in the preparation of non-disclosure agreements, head of terms, discrete research, and ad hoc legal advice.

You will work closely with the Legal and Business Affairs Manager and Head of Legal at Motion, the Global General Counsel and wider GroupM global legal team, providing plenty of support from the collaborative and highly experienced team.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll be PQE and have qualified or gained experience at a private practice law firm and had some exposure to relevant television or media sector whilst working in-house or on secondment. You will also:

  • have a firm grasp of contract and intellectual property law applicable to audio visual production (particularly television)
  • have reviewed commissioning agreements with the main broadcasters in the UK and possess a good understanding of the PACT terms of trade
  • have knowledge of television production including budgeting, finance, commissioning processes and conventions
  • be familiar with international television distribution agreements, and have a good understanding of how such deals are typically structured

As an individual you’ll have meticulous attention for detail and be a highly competent communicator; and possess the ability to manage competing deadlines and manage a varied workload. You’ll have a wide range of stakeholders to manage at all levels through to the C-Suite of Motion Content Group, GroupM and ultimately WPP so you should be a persuasive and confident communicator.
