Legal & Business Affairs Executive

Finance London, England

Position at GroupM

We have a phenomenal opportunity to join our growing legal team at GroupM, working specifically with Motion Content Group (part of GroupM and in turn WPP) for a 12-month fixed term contract maternity cover.

Motion Content Group is a market leading content investment and rights management company. It is primarily engaged in the business of developing, financing, producing and distributing content through commercial relationships with a range of broadcasters, media platforms and producers.  It has produced hundreds of hours of prime-time multi-genre programming, working with over 60 different independent production companies across 11 channels and numerous broadcasters globally. It has over 100 shows in active distribution.

About this role:

Motion Content Group has been through a period of growth and change and the business is expecting further expansion in 2018.  This role is maternity cover but if growth continues we will be open to consider a longer term relationship for the right candidate.

One of the great things about working for us is the variety of projects and the exposure you’ll receive to our business and our clients. In this role you’ll be the lynch pin between our internal teams and our external partners (broadcasters, producers, and distributors.)  We’ll look to you to manage, draft and negotiate, development, co-production, commissioning and distribution agreements and ensure that they are processed in a timely manner.  In addition, we’ll need you to review underlying production agreements such as location, access, talent, contributor and various other agreements and as needed, draft and negotiate NDAs.

You will also work closely with the legal counsel at MCG and with guidance from the General Counsel and wider GroupM global legal team – so plenty of support on hand and you’ll be joining a collaborative and highly experienced team.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for a junior qualified solicitor with between 1-3+ years PQE in a commercial department or role.  Ideally you’ll have qualified or gained experience at a private practice law firm and had some exposure to relevant media and television sector experiment whilst working in-house or on secondment.  We’re ideally looking for someone who has experience and an understanding of the areas of contract and intellectual property law applicable to audio visual production (particularly television) and distribution - alongside strong drafting and negotiation skills.

As an individual you’ll have meticulous attention for detail and be a highly competent communicator; and possess the ability to manage competing deadlines and manage a varied workload. You’ll have a wide range of stakeholders to manage at all levels through to the C-Suite of Motion Content Group, GroupM and ultimately WPP so you should be a persuasive and confident communicator.

This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone working in a private practice to join a diverse, digitally pioneering and collaborative agency group.   If you’d like to know more you can either apply through the advert or contact Jennifer Gabrielle-Chapman and James Belmont in the GroupM talent team for a confidential chat. ( and Please note that shortlisting will commence w/c 2nd January.

We are an equal opportunities employer. All GroupM agencies are equal opportunities employers and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, gender identity, disability, culture/religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
