MediaCom & Sky’s new relationship has given us an opportunity to reboot how we work together. An opportunity to refresh the fundamentals of great media planning. An opportunity to move more of our work together from good to great.

The role of the Sky Strategy Associate Director is pivotal to making this happen. You’ll be working in close partnership with the MediaCom Sky planning team to deliver creative, innovative and effective work across Sky Cinema & the Sky Ents portfolio (the Sky channel brands including Sky Atlantic, Sky One and Sky Witness; Sky’s exclusive portfolio of American drama including Westworld & Game of Thrones, and Sky’s increasing range of Original Productions, including Tin Star, Riviera, A Discovery of Witches, Save Me, Bulletproof & Curfew.)

Delivering Great Work for Sky

What does good work look like for Sky? We have analysed the components of campaigns that have been successful for Sky and for other MediaCom clients. This analysis has shown that the most effective campaigns have one or more of these seven elements:

  • Using their audience segmentation to unlock headroom for growth
  • Building campaigns on real human insight
  • Smart use of data – either customer data or 3rd party
  • Media & brand partnerships that drive cultural relevance
  • Using media to drive experience
  • Innovative use of media
  • Agile & reactive planning

You’ll work in close partnership with the MediaCom Sky Planning team to deliver this great work on every Sky Ents & Cinema brief. This will involve challenging the brief, coming up with killer insights & strategic twists, running workshops and stretches to generate creative ideas and helping work out how to make them happen.

You won’t just be answering standard planning briefs. As a Strategy AD you’ll be working on broader strategic challenges for Sky Ents (for example - what does innovation look like for the Ents category and how do we plan for it? How do we use data to build smarter target audiences for shows rather than just relying on demographics?) and working with the rest of the Sky CID team to run a regular programme of learning & inspiration for Sky planners

As well as working on Ents & Cinema planning briefs, you’ll be supporting Sarah Jones & Mark Wallace as a champion for Systems Planning across the Sky & Now TV teams, helping them with training new starters and collating and sharing systems planning best practice across the department.

What you will need

You will have solid strategic and problem-solving capabilities. You may well work in a comms planning role at MediaCom, however we are just as interested in ADs from other functions who are looking to move into a more strategic role: CID has previously recruited internally from MBA & RWI as well as from Comms Planning.

You’ll be passionate about making great work happen, and be excited about the opportunities data has to drive both effectiveness and creativity on plans. You will have the ability to fuse creative and analytical thinking, simplifying the complex to give clarity of thought. You’ll be comfortable in challenging the client and MediaCom to think differently, offering provocations to encourage the new and the different.

We’re looking for people who understand the best work is delivered through fostering collaboration between different parties – who enjoy working on an answer in conjunction with the MediaCom comms & implementational planning teams and with Sky’s own creative agency.

The Strategy & Systems Planning AD will report into Matt Delaney, Strategy Director in CID.
