Role Overview


The Operations and Platform Director will be responsible for the operational management and for the core GroupM Platforms, across on-premise and cloud services. Platforms include Tableau, PowerBI, Sharepoint, SQL Server, TFS and user identity management. The role will work closely with Applications, infrastructure partners, Service, Architecture and Transformation functions to provide platform services and release support to the GroupM and Agency Applications teams.


The Operations and Platform Director is a technical hands-on opportunity to work in a dynamic mixed on-premise and cloud environment. Primary objectives are to build a core management capability, define operations and drive reliability, performance and scalability of our central Platform Services.


The Operations and Platform Director will be responsible for the definition of platform roadmaps, continuous improvement plans, deployment/upgrade execution and submitting platform investment appraisals. Duties also cover Platform Change Advisory management where you are accountable for impact and risk assessments of new application releases on our platforms.




Operations and Platform management

  • Implement good practice and Standard Operating Procedures across all facets of Platform management, including development, pre-production and production environments
  • Manage Platform incident resolution within the environment, facilitating collaboration among other infrastructure and Application teams as required
  • Serve as an escalation point from third party support teams for major incidents, and escalate to the appropriate stakeholders as required
  • Define, measure, and meet key operational metrics including performance, incidents and chronic problems, traffic and conversion, etc.
  • Ensure that change management projects manage risk to applications and technologies.
  • Working closely with (agile) Application development teams, introduce DevOps practices, including the automation of build, deployment and operational processes
  • Bridge the gap between development teams and operations by instituting formal process and providing technical expertise
  • Continuously recommend realistic initiatives to reducing risk, cost and increasing quality of service and value to the business.


Create and implement Platform Roadmap

  • Contribute to strategic direction for GroupM platforms, working with the wider Technology groups, including technology reviews, analysis and where applicable selection in order to ensure company has adequate environments to provide suitable operating. environment(s)
  • Regularly benchmark current services against internal & external delivery models to provide optimal pricing and ability to directly link cost to demand where appropriate.


Platform DevOps Services Leadership and Development

  • Provide leadership and drive to ensure that the Platform Services Group consistently meets its objectives on time, to budget, to quality standards agreed
  • Manage their organization's resources to ensure there is sufficient staff, with the right skills and experience to meet the service delivery standards agreed with the business.
  • Oversee the recruitment and development of Platform Services Group staff in line with broader GroupM Technology guidelines
  • Contractor management and Managed Service Provider management of SLA’s, personnel, contracts and day to day operations.





  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, related degree; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.


Work Experience

  • 10-15 years of experience in Information Technology or Infrastructure services
  • 3+ years’ managing Cloud Service Operations, including a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and protocol across Azure and AWS
  • 7-10 years managerial experience 
  • Detailed understanding of agile development practices and continuous delivery, specific experience with automated build and deployment tools
  • Demonstrable experience working with ITIL processes, specifically incident, problem, change, release and configuration management.


Specific Competencies

  • Proven experience working with Microsoft stack and technologies, including SQL Server and integration services, PowerBI, O365, SharePoint (on-premise and online), OneDrive
  • Knowledge of specialized architecture in areas such as big data, ETL and data warehousing and emerging data technologies
  • Proficiency in and around security, disaster recovery and data protection solutions and methodologies
  • Managed an implementation of a DevOps team structure and definition of responsibilities, tools and operational processes
  • Experience supporting large-scale, business critical systems
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse team including offshore vendors
  • Strong desire to drive lean processes with a focus on automation
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to use those skills to effectively interface with end users and development and technical teams to conduct systems analysis and planning
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability and desire to be a leader and grow within our organization
  • Flexibility to travel.
