MediaCom handles the media planning and buying for some of the world's smartest advertisers.  Supported by keen consumer insight, analysis and experience, we are part of the largest media planning and buying network in the world.

We’re looking for a Planning Manager who would like to be immersed in the challenging Direct Line (which is part of the Direct Line Group) where they can expect to develop their brand response planning skills. The right candidate can expect to be given lots of responsibility to help evolve the communications planning approach of one of Mediacom’s biggest spending (£75m billings across DLG) and high profile accounts.

We drive communications strategy and direction, not just media planning, for most of our clients and with Direct Line Group we are a genuine lead agency who coordinate and integrate with some of the best creative (Saatchi & Saatchi), research (Millward Brown), and customer marketing (MRM) agencies in the country.

The Team

DLG has worked with Mediacom for almost a decade and as such it is a high profile account. The planning team has 14 members working across DLG and the Planning Manager can expect support both above and below with an Exec, Associate Director and Business Director working specifically on Direct Line.

The team has recently merged its brand and response functions meaning that all who work on the account are exposed to both brand building and response driving communications. The need to merge teams has developed following the new Connected Response approach to planning on the account and has led to a supportive, integrated and collaborative working approach within the team. The new approach is challenging and pushing the client, partner agencies and Mediacom to deliver great work.

The DLG team is perhaps the most integrated team at MediaCom, pulling on all areas of our service offering, from Strategic Planning in CID, to content and partnership marketing with Media Beyond Advertising, research and evaluation, and with a strong digital heart.

The Role

Direct Line is a brand that is evolving its communications and as a result the role of Planning Manager is one that has the opportunity to help take the clients on a journey from focusing solely on direct response to balancing the needs of long term brand building and short terms sales driving activity as part of the new Connected Response model.

This has resulted in a new and exciting comms landscape with multi million pound investment  Brand Activation, evolving TV strategies driven by an AV Neutral planning approach and a clear mandate to deliver a testing framework that delivers new opportunities to improve ROI

Improving the approach to digital, social and content is established as a priority for DLG and Mediacom and as such, the Planning Manager will be expected to contribute to great thinking and generating great ideas which push the client’s boundaries.

The Planning Manager will need to adapt to the needs of multiple client stakeholders and have an eye for detail to meet the needs of the analytical clients and a creative approach to help inspire the client to move out of their comfort zone.

The team works incredibly closely with the client and as lead agency we’re responsible for building a challenging, inspirational, and positive way of working for the communications stakeholders.  It’s a very sociable team with regular team and client events.

Skills, Behaviours and Experience Required

Ideally you would have been working for at least one year as a Planning Manager or similar role at another agency, or an experienced Senior Planner Buyer ready to make the next step up in their career

You will be enthusiastic, helpful and collaborative with an eye for detail and be seeking an environment where you can learn, develop and actively contribute to the evolution of a key agency account.

Whilst a background in response or performance based or data driven media is not critical you will need to be confident in holding discussions in this area.

Relevant category experience could include Telecomms, Financial Services, Utilities, E-Commerce, and Travel.
