Digital / Cross Media (Senior) Executive

Comms/Strategic Planning Edinburgh, Scotland

Position at Wavemaker

Future Makers

Wavemaker is the newest incarnation of a media agency, with Content & Tech just as much at the heart of the Communication strategies we produce for our clients.  The Scotland office is less than 2 years old, and has huge growth targets for the next three years.

With over 600 members of staff in our London office, and over 100 members of staff in our Manchester office, we have an abundance of wider support to pull from.  However, we are now focussing on growing the core team based in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre, to establish ourselves as a key contender within the regional market in our own right.  We are looking for someone with the raw drive to be part of, and propel, that growth.

Our ethos at Wavemaker Scotland is ‘Fresh Minds and Dirty Hands’.  We pride ourselves on always looking for ways of improving our work; and not just thinking of great ideas, but relishing the challenge of getting stuck in to make it happen.

Job Title:                      Digital / Cross Media (Senior) Executive

Reporting to:                 Business Director

Key reports:                  N/A

Role context:

Responsible for the day to day running of the campaigns within the agency; planning, setting up, reporting, and optimising these campaigns.  You will also work closely with the more senior members of the team in the longer term client development plans.  You will also help manage our social media profile, support in events & marketing, as well as providing support to the senior team with New Business activity.

We are looking for an individual who has a foundation of primarily Digital experience within the media industry, to join our growing team as a Media Executive, or as a Senior Executive depending on level of experience and expertise.  The role will focus on planning & buying Paid Social, PPC, Display and Video.

You will also gain exposure to SEO, Affiliates, Organic Social and Content campaigns, working in conjunction with the Manchester office to deliver the planning & buying of these channels.

You will have the opportunity to work across all Wavemaker Scotland clients, and across all channels, regardless of channel mix.  As such, you will receive training in any media channels, both online and offline (TV, OOH, Radio & Print), that you don’t currently plan and buy.  As you develop into your role, you will also be trained on WM’s proprietary Planning tools, such as Rapid Growth Planning and Momentum; boosting your skills of planning campaigns holistically, rather than at channel level only.

Our primary aim is to welcome someone into the team who has a positive and driven attitude towards the industry, who has a thirst for learning new skill sets and broadening their media expertise.  This opportunity is ideal for anyone who wants to work in an agency that has the intimacy and autonomy of an Independent agency, but that has the security, clout and expertise of a Network agency.  It is also ideal for anyone who wants to branch out into wider agency roles to build hands on knowledge of everything that Content, Media and Tech has to offer from agency life.

Core Skill Set & Role Responsibilities:

  1. Proficient in both planning & buying at least one Digital media channel, and ideally multiple. Proficient in trafficking and using Ad Servers, as well as other self-service platforms (Such as AdWords, Facebook Ad Manager, Criteo, DSP’s etc).
  2. Good understanding of the Programmatic / bidding model of media buying, with proven skills of optimising campaigns, with both commercial and strategic performance in mind.
  3. Strong Analytical skills; being able to provide insightful commentary and actionable and varied optimisations. The successful candidate will be trained on.
  4. Strong client management skills; the role will include day-to-day client liaison and management.
  5. Evidence of dealing with high pressure situations; standing one’s ground and being able to diffuse tensions are skills that are required in equal measure. Experience in resolving issues timely and professionally, with minimal intervention or contribution from your Line Manager.
  6. Well organised with a natural ability to multitask and prioritise various workloads.
  7. Meticulous attention to detail.
  8. A strong value of comradery with colleagues, and a genuine passion for delivering high quality of work to clients. Proactive and consistent communication with the Senior Team regarding workload status will also be important.
  9. Being an individual who can work both collaboratively and autonomously is essential.
  10. Experience of challenging norms and reshaping the everyday - solving or reworking processes that have benefitted either clients or the wider team.

Other Responsibilities or Expectations:

  • A self-starter in terms of identifying work that needs to be done and problem solving.
  • A proactive & enthusiastic approach to work.

  • Adaptable working ethos with an unquenchable thirst for learning.
  • Willingness to pitch in and help out where needs be, rather than only being comfortable within their confines of expertise.

  • Wavemaker has an incredibly friendly and inclusive way of working. This is especially evident in the Wavemaker Scotland office as we’re a much smaller and tightknit team.

  • Our agency is still in its infancy – we are the newest GroupM agency in the UK, and the first agency to be set up in Scotland for 10 years. If helping establish Wavemaker Scotland as a well-respected and flourishing agency sounds exciting rather than daunting, you’re who we want on board!

  • Embraces a varied workload, with fresh challenges, and an open-mindedness to welcome differing perspectives, and to never follow the mantra “we’ve always done it like this”.
