About the team and/or client


GroupM provides products and services to the GroupM agencies. These range from technology solutions through to training programmes. Conceptually the GroupM team exists to facilitate efficiencies in the Agencies themselves and provide thought leadership to them.


The Interaction team is one of the core units in GroupM with a primary focus on the Digital space. Teams within this department drive strategies, technology innovation, efficiency and new revenue across the digital environment working closely with the different Agency teams. The core aim is to allow agencies to have their individual USPs whilst using the size and buying power of the combined group to drive more cost effective and better managed deals.


The Role Objective


This role operates within the Operations team in the Programmatic Services Team (disclosed model) in the UK and is chiefly responsible in the short to medium term for helping to build this new capability while delivering immediate results for our clients on campaigns. The individual will be a hard-working and dynamic advertising operations professional keen to expand their understanding, skills and experience within the programmatic digital media space. Supporting the Optimisation Managers (data-driven optimisation specialists with significant experience in hands-on DSP trading) by taking ownership of all ad operations tasks as well as financial administration duties which include order processing, booking and reconciliation.

I have been working as an Operations Executive in the Programmatic Services Team for 8 months now, and have been thoroughly enjoying it. The team is absolutely fantastic, and I have been given the opportunity to thrive. Throughout my time here I have developed both as an individual and as a team member, and my confidence has grown tenfold.  GroupM as a company is such a brilliant place to work; with so many perks and an atmosphere of community, and here you really feel as though the senior managers care about both your personal and career development; your opinions are taken seriously no matter what your level of seniority is. This feeling permeates through the PST too. My manager and Heads of the PST have taken a real interest in my progression and listen to suggestions and ideas openly and without judgement. I have been given so many opportunities for training and my responsibilities have been growing gradually, such that I now am the main point of contact for two advertisers’ campaigns, having started the role with little to no knowledge of the programmatic space.

As you can probably tell I am a massive advocate for this role and I really believe there are so many opportunities in this team.




The day to day responsibilities of the Operations Executive will vary considerably, however they are expected to focus on the following areas of activity:

Order Management

  • Creation of Execution Plans which break down costs required to execute a campaign given a client’s brief
  • Reconciliation of PBU Bookings for agencies and suppliers

Ad Operations

  • Creative and pixel trafficking
  • Technical trouble-shooting
  • Discrepancy investigation resolution
  • Tactical project development
  • Maintain DSP blacklist and white lists
  • Advertiser set up in DSP and Proteus

Campaign Reporting

  • Upload third party ad server reports to Proteus
  • Monitor discrepancies and troubleshoot where relevant
  • Monitor CV tools to ensure we minimise blocking to allow us to maximise performance
  • Create reporting templates and support weekly reporting required for Optimisation commentaries
  • Create detailed post-campaign analysis to support Optimisation Managers

Campaign Launch and Optimisation


  • Pre-campaign launch “buddy checks”
  • Support Optimisation Managers: set up in the DSPs, monitoring pacing and performance, make recommendations for changes in the DSP


Process management, standards and workflow


  • Support best practice and workflow with internal customers

Experience Required


  • Evidence of technical comfort and strong understanding of internet functionality, digital media technologies and market
  • Analytical experience - evidence of having approached problems from a mathematical perspective and working through to a solution in a logical way
  • An understanding of basic financial processes and concepts such as billing and reconciliation
  • Proven track record in establishing high levels of customer satisfaction
