The Company

The company is a firmly established financial research and support company located in the central London area. The Role

The company is seeking a Network Operations Analyst to join the Network Operations team for on 6 month contract.  The Network Operations team is responsible for the company’s global network infrastructure covering office, datacenter and colocation sites and works closely alongside the Network Engineering team to support this environment.  The team is fairly small but is growing and broadening the scope of the network infrastructure that it takes responsibility for.

The role will primarily center on the day-to-day monitoring, support and troubleshooting of the network infrastructure. The role will cover the following main areas:

  • Provisioning, testing and troubleshooting network connectivity to third party trading partners.
  • Performing general network changes such as provisioning ports and VLANs and updating access control lists and rolling out standardized changes across the infrastructure.
  • Investigating issues with metro, national and international connectivity and where applicable working with third party vendors to identify a reason for outage and ensure the stability of the service they are providing.
  • Manage third party maintenance notifications and where necessary take appropriate actions to ensure continuity of service to the business.
  • Monitor the health of the network infrastructure using an array of network monitoring and analysis tools such as Solarwinds NPM and Riverbed SteelCentral.
  • Investigate network issues and provide network level analysis using tools such as Wireshark.
  • Investigate hardware and software problems with network devices and work with the manufacturers’ support teams to resolve.

Key technologies in use are:

  • Cisco and Arista switches, Cisco ASR routers, Cisco ASA firewalls, BGP, VXLAN, dark fibre, CWDM/DWDM, multicast routing, link layer data encryption.

The role also provides the opportunity to work alongside the Network Engineering team and requires close interaction with the Infrastructure, Datacentre and IT Operations teams providing a broad exposure to a variety of enterprise products and technologies and a wealth of expertise.


The Individual


It will be important for the successful candidate to have a good understanding of enterprise network technologies and protocols and evidence of strong problem solving skills is importantThis should be backed by at least a CCNA level qualification and ideally CCNP Routing and Switching certification demonstrating familiarity with configuring, operating and troubleshooting Cisco switches and routers.

The individual should have previous experience working within a network team in an operational role providing first line network support and general network monitoringThe individual should also have experience working with major international telecoms carriers and network hardware vendors to troubleshoot, diagnose and rectify connectivity, hardware and configuration issues.
