Summary

The Company

The company is a well established financial research and support company located in the central London area.  Information Technology is a core strength, and the technical challenges and breadth of technology exposure will be attractive to candidates wishing to be part of a dynamic team that will present them with a stimulating environment. 

The Windows Infrastructure Engineering team is growing and the company wishes to find outstanding individuals who can contribute to this team.  There are a broad range of technologies and systems in use, and the team supports an advanced, high-pressure environment.

 

The Role

The company is seeking an experienced Windows Infrastructure Engineer for the Engineering teamThis team is responsible for the storage and virtualisation platforms (both scale out), the grid compute system used for research, as well as Exchange, multiple Active Directory domains and a number of third party products for Source Control and File Replication. At the time of writing the environment (for which responsible) consists of ~2500 Windows machines (50% virtualized) and >15PB of SAN\NAS storage.

The role is principally project based and covers managing and upgrading the current infrastructure as well as researching and implementing new technologies in line with key business objectives.

There is a third-line and out-of-hours support requirement, which operates on a rota. However, this is shared amongst all team members and is kept to a minimum by virtue of a dedicated Infrastructure Operations team, who work alongside closely.

Some international travel will likely be required (albeit intermittently) as the environment is not all hosted in London.

The role requires an experienced Windows engineer with extensive experience of the core set of Microsoft Server products including Active Directory, File Services, Clustering and Exchange. Strong PowerShell scripting skills are absolutely essential as is experience with VMWare.

Finally, first-hand experience of On-Premise Cloud solutions and IaaS\PaaS would be highly beneficial.

 

The Individual

This role requires a skilled engineer with a strong delivery track record. Financial institution experience in a trading environment is desirable but not essential. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related disciplines from a top university is required. The company has high academic hiring standards and requires candidates with a 2:1 degree or better and 3 B’s or equivalent at A-Level.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have at least 3 years experience of working in a systems infrastructure role.

Experience of providing automated solutions using Microsoft technologies is important, as is exposure to Windows 2008 and storage technologies.  The successful applicant will be one of the company’s experts on Windows related technologies and will have to demonstrate strong problem solving skills along with the technical experience needed to build high-performance, resilient solutions.

 

Compensation

Salary and compensation package will depend on experience and the skills the candidate has to offer but will be in line with expectations at a top-flight financial institution.
