The Company

The Role

The company is seeking an experienced Windows Automation Engineer to join the IT Operations group. The team is responsible for ensuring the entire Microsoft infrastructure meets configuration baselines, including the rollout of new workstations and servers, as well as project work to drive efficiency in maintaining this infrastructure. The role will involve:

  • Ensuring and maintaining configuration settings using Desired State Configuration (2000+ Windows hosts)
  • Automated software packaging
  • Full administration of WSUS infrastructure and rolling out Windows Updates
  • Rolling out new and updated third-party software to all Workstations and Servers
  • Create, Deploy and Maintain Windows OS Images
  • General automation and scripting to ease administrative burden
  • Implementing and adhering to automation best practices such as Infrastructure as Code and Fast Feedback Loops
  • Company-wide migration to Windows 10 and Server 2016

The Individual

The role requires a skilled and enthusiastic engineer. Financial institution experience in a trading environment is desirable but not essential. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other technical discipline from a top university is required. The company has high academic hiring standards and requires candidates with a 2:1 degree or better and 3 B’s or equivalent at A-Level.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have at least 18 months experience working in a systems support or infrastructure role. Experience of providing automated solutions using Microsoft technologies is important, as is exposure to Windows 2012. A good understanding and working knowledge of Windows PowerShell is also essential. 

The applicant should also have a good background in User and Desktop support, in particular Windows 7. The following would also be beneficial:

  • Exposure to Desired State Configuration
  • Experience in dealing with WSUS
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, or .NET language
  • Experience in unattended OS deployments
  • Experience with Windows 10 and Server 2016


Salary and compensation package will depend on experience and the skills the candidate has to offer but will be in line with expectations at a top-flight financial institution.
