Windows Infrastructure Operations Analyst

Information Technology London, United Kingdom

Job Specification – Windows Infrastructure Operations

We are now recruiting for a smart and technically gifted individual to join a financial technology research institution that invests heavily in their infrastructure and utilize the very latest technologies. This role constitutes a superb opportunity to work for a rapidly growing and intellectually stimulating company in an interesting infrastructure position.

The Company

The company is a well established financial research and support company located in the central London area.  Information Technology is a core strength, and the technical challenges and breadth of technology exposure will be attractive to candidates wishing to be part of a dynamic team that will present them with a stimulating environment.

The Windows Infrastructure Operations team is growing and the company wishes to find outstanding individuals who can contribute to this team.  There are a broad range of technologies and systems in use, and the team supports an advanced, high-pressure environment.

The Role

The company is seeking a Windows Infrastructure Engineer for the Operations team.  This team provides 3rd line support, along with routine upgrades for storage and virtualisation platforms (both scale out), the grid compute system used for research, as well as Exchange, multiple Active Directory domains and a number of third party products for Source Control and File Replication. At the time of writing the environment (for which responsible) consists of ~2500 Windows machines (50% virtualized) and >15PB of SAN\NAS storage.

The role will operate on a shift rota, including overnight oncall duties after a sufficient level of competency has been reached. Some international travel will likely be required (albeit intermittently) as the environment is not all hosted in London.

The role requires an experienced Windows Analyst, comfortable with the core set of Microsoft Server products including Active Directory, File Services, Clustering and Exchange. Strong PowerShell scripting skills are absolutely essential to automate established workflows at every opportunity. Knowledge and experience of Networking, Crash Dump Analysis, VMWare, SAN Management and Server and Storage hardware are also highly desirable.

Finally, despite being a Windows role, basic Unix competency is certainly beneficial.

The Individual

This role requires a skilled analyst with a strong delivery track record. Financial institution experience in a trading environment is desirable but not essential. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related disciplines from a top university is required. The company has high academic hiring standards and requires candidates with a 2:1 degree or better and 3 B’s or equivalent at A-Level.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have at least 2 years’ experience of working in a systems infrastructure role.

Experience of providing automated solutions using Microsoft technologies is important, as is exposure to Windows 2008 and storage technologies.  The successful applicant will be one of the company’s experts on Windows related technologies and will have to demonstrate strong problem solving skills along with the technical experience needed to build high-performance, resilient solutions.

Salary and compensation package will depend on experience and the skills the candidate has to offer but will be in line with expectations at a top-flight financial institution.
