We are currently looking for a  junior\mid-level Database Administrator to join the existing Production DBA team and support of all aspects of Microsoft SQL Server. The successful candidate will take a role covering day-to-day operational support. This is an amazing opportunity to develop their SQL skills and career through training and certification within a highly experienced team.  The right candidate will be technically curious, smart and have a natural aptitude for learning new technologies. They will need to understand the critical role that databases play in a business and will have worked with production databases in the past. They will be expected to become familiar with all aspects of the company’s IT infrastructure so that they can eventually provide support cover according to an on-call rota. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide DBA support for a multi-site Microsoft SQL Server environment (2014\2016)
  • Maintenance of a business-critical multi-site environment utilising technologies such as Replication, Mirroring, Clustering, Log-Shipping and Availability Groups for Business Continuity
  • Working closely with developers – advising on design and indexing issues, performance tuning, discussing and implementing code changes
  • Understanding and managing database security
  • Performing out-of-hours work such as server migrations, patching and upgrades as necessary
  • Working with the wider engineering and operational teams on issues impacting SQL Server that involve IT infrastructure such as storage, VMs and networks
  • Documentation of processes and procedures

Skills Required

  • Up to 5 years’ experience working as a Production DBA in a business critical environment
  • Exposure to most aspects of Database Administration using SQL Server 2008 or higher
  • Some exposure to T-SQL to perform automation and maintenance tasks and review code
  • Ability to deliver high quality, methodical and process driven work
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong desire to learn and become an expert in the area of SQL Server administration

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Some exposure to HA/DR features (Replication, Log shipping, Mirroring, Clustering, AG)
  • PowerShell scripting
  • An understanding of the wider IT infrastructure (AD, DNS, Windows, Networks, Storage)
  • Any experience of JIRA and Confluence or other support logging system
