Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark is seeking a Corps Manager to manage our campus-based Tutor Corps program.

About this Role
The Tutor Corps program is a key component of Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark. The Corps Manager is a leadership position within the school that is ultimately responsible for the oversight of the campus-based Tutor Corps program, including supervision of Corps Staff.

The Tutor Corps Manager is responsible for ensuring tutorial periods are properly planned, instruction is effective, and Tutor Corps members receive the necessary support and tools to be successful in their role.

The successful candidate will be driven to shape new college graduates into effective educators. S/he will also be mission driven, adaptable and a have collaborative team mindset.

Key responsibilities include:

Ensure effective day-to-day operations of the Tutor Corps by:

  • Supervising Corps Staff members (second year Tutor Corps members who take on leadership roles) and supporting them in their duties. Key duties include direct supervision of tutors, tutorial content support or development, observation and feedback of tutorial, and overseeing parent communication and weekly progress reports.
  • Managing and supervising all aspects of tutorials including devising schedules and providing curriculum support.
  • Working closely with other members of the Leadership team to ensure that the Tutor Corps is meeting the needs of students by analyzing student growth and achievement data.
  • Assigning Tutor Corps secondary duties that directly impact the academic achievements of students. These projects may include providing in-class or curriculum support, organizing or leading after school enrichment activities or working with our culture team.
  • Continuously evaluating the Tutor Corps program’s effectiveness and efficiency and using this data to devise long-term strategies that lead to improvement of the program.
  • Overseeing all performance measures for Tutor Corps members including conducting mid-year and end of year evaluations as well as supervising the on-boarding and exiting of members.
  • Supporting the AmeriCorps Manager to ensure compliance with the AmeriCorps grant alongside the Great Oaks Foundation.

Support professional development of highly effective tutors by:

  • Developing the content for the Tutor Corps orientation and on-going professional development opportunities.
  • Ensuring all Corps members have the resources and structures they need to be successful.
  • Fostering high standards by observing, evaluating and providing actionable feedback to tutors using rubrics and student achievement data analyses.

Supporting the recruitment/selection process and engaging prospective Tutor Corps members by:

  • Conducting In-person or Skype interviews and reviewing work product tasks associated with a prospective tutor’s application and completing interview evaluations electronically.
  • Working with recruitment team to send timely communication and information to tutors who have accepted the offer to join the Tutor Corps.

Additional responsibilities as designated by the Executive Director or Chief Tutor Corps Officer.

  • Have completed at least one year of service in the Tutor Corps or similar program
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze student growth and performance data and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrate ability to respond well to and implement feedback immediately

Candidates must possess:

  • Excellent planning, entrepreneurial, management, and communication skills, with a proven ability to project manage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills of organization and follow-through
  • A relentless work ethic and commitment to achieving the school's mission.
  • A strong academic record, including a bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university
  • Superb organizational and self-management skills and be able to handle multiple responsibilities effectively; have strong planning and execution skills; be a goal-oriented and effective problem-solver
  • Successful experience managing, supervising or professionally coaching young professionals preferably in an urban school or service setting such as at City Year, Teach for America or another AmeriCorps program
  • Exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to provide clear consistent and firm feedback in a positive manner.
  • At least two years of experience working with youth in an urban, academic setting

Staff and Reporting Relationships

The Corps Manager will report directly to the Chief Tutor Corps Officer and serve on the campus-based school leadership team.
