Procurement/Category Manager – Strategic Sourcing

Position at Gogo Commercial Aviation

This position will develop and manage the procurement strategy for  key categories primarily focused on LRUs/hardware for Gogo by collaborating with internal and external customers in tailoring Supply Chain strategies to leverage opportunities, mitigate obstacles and drive performance to meet Gogo objectives.  This manager will work closely with Design Engineering, PMO, Quality, Supplier Program Management, Contracts Management and Finance to provide leadership in supplier strategies. Responsibilities will include developing overall category supplier strategies, cost savings strategies, managing the supplier-procurement process end to end, including business case development, RFP management, qualifying new suppliers, contract negotiations, development of new suppliers to reduce costs and serving as supplier escalation.

  • Manage and drive the supplier sourcing for new product introductions including the scope development, the RFP process and supplier selection evaluations
  • Assess supplier capabilities to meet product, cost, quality, capacity and fulfillment ensuring suppliers are able to meet requirements for performance, quality, cost and delivery and other applicable customer and internal system and reputation requirements
  • Collaborate with suppliers, Gogo Engineering, Supplier Program Management/NPI and Quality to design new products
  • Assist with new product launch by working with suppliers to ensure that key milestones are achieved
  • Interface with internal teams to prioritize supplier development needs by technology to improve cost competitiveness or supply constraints
  • Research external market information and companies to identify potential sources and suppliers
  • Drive supplier selection through robust qualification processes
  • Assess new and existing supplier capabilities to meet product cost, quality, capacity, fulfillment delivery and any other applicable customer and internal system requirements
  • Work with Supplier Program Management to monitor and track the supplier scorecards and suppliers’ performance indicators to facilitate and develop the supply base’s ability to consistently meet or exceed defined expectations and to deliver value
  • Work with Engineering and suppliers to develop cost models
  • Deliver results as measured by key category cost metrics
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to sourcing and development of suppliers with respect to technology, performance, quality, cost, logistics and delivery
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends

7-10 years of strategic sourcing/category management in LRU supplier manufacturing/development experience required. Aerospace experience in quality, engineering, manufacturing, operations is a plus

  • Experience in developing and implementing vendor qualification
  • Knowledge of quality and business systems
  • Commercial and financial acumen
  • Vast experience with cross functional management
  • Report and procedure writing with excellent presentation skills
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business required. MBA in business discipline is preferred
