Position at Gogo Commercial Aviation

Sr Program Manager plays a key role in Enterprise PMO organization. This position will be involved in two key areas:

1) Portfolio program management and focus will be on project resource capacity planning, optimal project resource utilization, and coordinating the on-going project resource and staffing plan needs. 

2) Program Management of large scale aircraft deployment focus will be on deployment planning of key Gogo initiatives that span across multiple regions and airlines. 

 

Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Program Management

 

  • Design, develop, and implement the capacity operating model and roles and responsibilities. The model will need to support the annual forecast process by reporting and analyzing resource capacity data for carryover and proposed projects
  • Analyze, monitor, and report on capacity, availability, and utilization of resource pool to regularly communicate project staffing status.  Maintain resource availability information.  Advise on surplus and deficiencies, as needed.
  • Forecast work load across projects and partner with department managers to plan resources allocation/assignment based on skills and experience to build effective project staffing plans. 
  • Prepare reports showing utilization trends and project staffing forecasts.
  • Recommend project staffing changes, as needed.
  • Participate in the development of business case and ROI analysis for major PMO program requests.
  • Assess on-going risks and opportunities and proactively develop action plans to minimize exposure and enhance opportunities for capacity allocations.
  • Streamline and make capacity planning and resource management activities more efficient and effective. Support ad hoc reporting as needed
  • Audit the weekly time entry process to ensure resources are following guidelines and data is accurately applied to project work within the time tracking system
  • Generate ad-hoc what-if scenarios or forecast modeling on the resources (internal and external

dollars).

Program Management

  • Manage all aspects of multiple internal projects through the engineering lifecycle including project plans, project budgets, resources and delivery of outcomes.
  • Provide timely reports to upper management to ensure an understanding of status and project performance. Prepare interim and completion project reports.
  • Hold regular cross-functional project meetings to review and update project status, logistics, resources, schedule and objectives. Assure early problem identification and implementation of corrective action.
  • Frame issues, leverage strategic priorities and drive project teams towards a common view of the best path forward.
  • Ensure all project plans are up to date with respect to planning, scope, scheduling, cost estimations and status.
  • Leads negotiations with project participants and stakeholders on significant project issues.
  • Ensure pertinent written records are maintained that document all agreements relating to a project.
  • Drive continuous improvement across departmental teams.

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. / B.A. in Computer Science, Business, or related major
  • 5-10 years of related experience.
  • 3-5 years of Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) experience
  • 3-5 years of resource management experience.
  • 5-10 years of program management experience
  • Experience in creating capacity and resources modeling is must
  • Strong background with generating, analyzing and reporting PMO/financial documents
  • Practical problem solving and strategic thinking skills, analytical, critical thinker, and self-starter
  • Demonstrated leadership for process harmonization across an organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining view on the strategic direction
  • Proficient in project/program management skills with experience in using standard techniques, such as earned value, cost, schedule, resource, risk and opportunity management.
  • Knowledge and experience with product development in the aviation industry a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a high paced environment.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills
  • Excellent facilitation and issue resolution skills
  • PMP/SAFe/Agile knowledge and experience/certification
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Project Online, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Tools: JIRA and PWA knowledge are plus
