Position at Gogo Business Aviation

As a Gogo Business Aviation Linux Software Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing production quality software for our airborne products and platforms. You will develop new features, enhance existing software components, and test feature functionality on both new and existing products in a Linux platform environment. You will be part of an Agile Scrum development team that is central to our product vision and works closely with many other teams from across the company.


How will you make a difference?

  • Design software features for new products or extends design of existing products, including selection and integration of third-party technologies, particularly open source. Features may be low level system features, or front-end GUI.
  • Verify, validate, and regression test software, both internal components and end-user facing features.
  • Create high and low level design documentation.  Ensure requirements can be traced to system-level requirements and into system test cases and procedures.
  • Conduct design reviews, code inspections, and test reviews.
  • Identify and effectively troubleshoot software and network problems. Implement appropriate corrections and develop robust associated test cases.
  • Provide Level of Effort estimates for requirements and feature development.
  • Track project tasks, provide status, and ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Continually improve design, development, and test processes, including researching and introducing new development tools.
  • Work in an agile team environment with daily scrum meetings.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related Engineering
  • 2+ years of software development or software test experience, preferably in a Linux or embedded systems environment.

Required Skills, Experience, and Talents

  • Strong application development and test skills in Linux environments, utilizing C, C++, Python and Linux scripting languages.
  • In-depth experience as a Software Engineer developing software and utilizing open source packages, especially related to data communications and telecommunications systems.
  • Software testing experience, including unit testing and embedded systems integration testing.
  • Strong understanding of Linux networking, containers, and performance.
  • Relevant software configuration management skills and tools experience using Git.
  • Experience shipping products and supporting them in the field.


Desirable Skills, Experience, and Talents

  • Leadership roles as a software engineer, such as Scrum Master or Technical Lead
  • Linux server administration skills.
  • Avionics industry and DO-178B experience or knowledge.
  • Experience with Linux kernel networking
  • Experience with 802.11ac wireless networking
  • Experience in Avionics and ARINC protocols
  • Experience with automated test development execution
  • Familiarity with a disciplined rapid software development process, preferably Agile.
