Role Overview:

The right candidate will have experiences across a variety of design disciplines from story through to systems and gameplay. The Creative Director will work with the product owner to drive the creative vision, along with game systems and mechanics that enhance the user experience.  The candidate will be the vision owner, but also able to dive into designing innovative systems and features leveraging established mobile practices.

Responsibilities:

 Strategic

  • Establish and drive the overall creative vision for the product based on a deep understanding of the player needs and motivations;
  • Lead the design efforts and inspire the entire team in order to develop a engaging and meaningful user experience;
  • Inspire, collaborate and communicate closely with the project leads & team members to coordinate the creative efforts;
  • Continually review implementation and maintain quality of execution for every feature and system. Clearly articulate what quality looks like;
  • Use both analytical and creative thinking to find solutions to difficult design issues;
  • Own responsibility for all creative deliverables, from individual stories to milestone epics;
  • Help drive continual improvements to our design standards, practices, and tools;
  • Mentor less experienced design team members towards great results;
  • Accountable for the success of the design team.

 Tactical

  • Author design specifications for product features, present the work and gain consensus;
  • Create fun, meaningful gameplay loops and mechanics that scale to deliver depth over time;
  • Build the data framework and comprehensively model all game systems;
  • Analyze live game data to tune and balance the game difficulty and economy;
  • Develop and manage the development of conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, and prototypes;
  • Partner with product management and development, championing the creation of user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, professional expertise, metrics, and usability findings;
  • Present design work to the product stakeholders, and Glu executives for review and feedback.
  • Drive a realistic approach to design scope and priorities, with schedule and available resources in mind;

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in a designer role, including at least one shipped free-to-play title;
  • Launched at least one commercially successful product as the lead designer;
  • Strong practical knowledge of the F2P business model and mechanics;
  • Has an inquisitive mind, constantly reviewing competitive products and learning about emerging play patterns;
  • Passionate about the player, understanding what drives and motivates them;
  • Broad understanding of how to use data driven game systems and formulas and to drive the meta-game, economy, game balance and pacing;
  • Solid understanding of usability, flow and UI design for touch screens;
  • Decisive but flexible; able to accept criticism, perform and adapt quickly in a creative, rapidly changing, fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Experience building games with the Unity engine a plus;
  • Diverse background including experience with mobile, console, PC and multiple genres;
  • Must have a passion for immersive digital experiences and the ability to articulate that passion.
