Role Overview

As Lead Server Engineer you will help define the foundation for an exciting new game, joining a small but growing team on the ground floor. You will have the opportunity to set technical direction and help build a back-end that can support millions of players and real-time multiplayer. We are looking for a highly-skilled, experienced self-starter that is passionate about building quality services.


  • Define architecture of back-end game services and protocols
  • Design, code, and debug server side code
  • Evaluate third-party technology and adopt as required by the game
  • Ensure services are built to scale and are secure
  • Work (and collaborate) with designers and QA to develop features
  • Mentor and share knowledge with other engineers
  • Maintain code quality and participate in code reviews
  • Effective and forward communication with the team in all areas


  • Experience shipping multiple games with a significant server back-end
  • Experience architecting scalable back-end services
  • Experience operating and maintaining back-end services in a live environment
  • Expertise in a common back-end language such as C#, Java, Go, Python, or JS (Node)
  • Expertise with cloud-based services and providers
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field

Preferred Skills

  • Experience building real-time multiplayer servers
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. DynamoDB, Cassandra)
  • Experience with scripting (e.g. Lua, Python)
  • Experience developing libraries in C/C++
