This is a fun and unique role where you will be able to build your expertise with technology and law while advising our game development teams on content and design issues, privacy/data security, consumer protection, and advertising/marketing laws and regulations.  Reporting to Glu’s Deputy General Counsel, the role requires strong business judgement and risk mitigation experience.  Working at the intersection of business, intellectual property, data protection and privacy issues, the product and commercial counsel role will be partnering with business unit leaders, software engineers and creative game designers to strategize and counsel these groups to find a clear path to execute business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively review products (yes, our mobile games) prior to public release and those already released in light of current and future laws, regulations and industry standards throughout the world, while focusing on best practices for games, and delivering relevant advice for today's global mobile gaming world
  • Provide counseling and training on relevant issues such as consumer protection, trade dress, trademark and copyright, and product promotions such as sweepstakes and contest
  • Generating privacy strategies and policies for multiple business units with the assistance of Deputy General Counsel
  • Build and coordinate cross-functional relationships with business teams as well as other members of the Legal Team to help drive efficient practices and consistency with internal policies and processes
  • Provide guidance to product teams on issues related to new and existing game and features throughout the entire gaming lifecycle
  • Become a resident expert and resource on issues related to the Company’s Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, general privacy and data protection issues and recognize when these need updating;
  • Review, draft and negotiate and wide variety of commercial agreements, including those related to licensing of content, services, and ancillary or third-party technologies

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience; a combination of in-house and law firm experience preferred
  • Experience working on multiple client intellectual property and licensing portfolios with a focus on mobile app development experience
  • Experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating license and other relevant commercial agreements
  • Generally knowledgeable about legislation and other global trends and initiatives that are relevant to mobile apps and games
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a high-volume workload in a demanding work environment
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients
  • Sound and practical business judgment

  • Highly responsive with a service-oriented attitude
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to articulate concepts and issues to non-legal partners
  • Nice to have:
    • Experience working at a publicly traded company
    • Deep experience and exposure to privacy and data collection issues; CIPP certification
    • Gaming experience and/or experience with digitally distributed software; experience with internet law and advertising law
