Underwriting Services Manager

The Underwriting Services Manger will be responsible for leading a team of Penn America post issuance underwriters who are responsible for verifying that policies issued by binding partners are properly structured and in accordance with underwriting guidelines.  They will be in charge of training new employees, monitoring their progress, and tracking their performance against key metrics.  Additionally, they will need to apply underwriting expertise to assist in rectifying underwriting issues identified by the team and provide insights on how to prevent the issues going forward.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage the activities of the post issuance team to ensure quality and production is within service standards.
  • Create and administer training to the post issuance team.
  • Plan and prioritize work for self and team.
  • Work with Corporate Audit and the Compliance team to implement their findings into the activities of the team.
  • Work closely with the broader management team to develop new/enhanced review criteria.
  • Work closely with the production underwriting team to support new business growth and underwriting profitability initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain productive/collaborative relationships with other Global departments and partner agents.



  • 5+ years commercial insurance underwriting experience
  • Insurance industry knowledge, specifically a broad property and casualty background.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Strong client facing/presentation skills
  • Ability to develop reports, spreadsheets, and data analytics
  • Ability to multi-task and manage to multiple performance metrics
  • Ability to organize and lead team meetings
  • Ability to keep a proactive pulse on the business and provide quick responses as required
  • Travel up to 10% - 15%.


Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Insurance license(s) or Professional designation preferred
