The Leader, Middle Market Business will be responsible for the growth and profitable underwriting for GBLI’s ongoing Property Brokerage business, as well as the development and expansion of Casualty referral business that is outside the general appetite of the GBLI Binding appetite. In addition, this leader will be responsible for:

  • Appointment, termination, and overall relationship management with wholesalers, including taking proactive steps to maximize profitable growth;
  • Hiring & training additional staff to support profitable growth;
  • Overseeing teams of property and casualty underwriters, either directly or indirectly through Team Lead(s)/Supervisor(s), who, in turn, are responsible for underwriting individual accounts;
  • Working with GBLI’s Chief Underwriting & Analytics Officer, as well as the Head of Product Development, to expand the appetite for the company’s primary casualty business on a product-by-product rollout (e.g. Light Manufacturing, Auto Services, Construction, etc.);
  • Oversee implementation of new underwriting technology for Middle Market.


  • 10+ years property and casualty underwriting, marketing, product development, and/or sales
  • 5+ years managing people
  • Ability to work and/or manage hybrid and remote working environments
  • Ability to travel to wholesalers and industry events, as needed
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills, including the ability to present to senior management and the Board of Directors, as needed
  • Strong analytics capabilities in order to monitor and oversee profitable growth
  • CPCU or other underwriting designations a plus
