This position will be responsible for supporting the future strategic growth of the Programs division at GBLI.  The core responsibility will be executing the divisional strategy by supporting existing programs and assisting with the launch of new products, as well as developing and supporting the Programs Division with current premium and loss ratio objectives.  This will mean working closely with the product development, underwriting analytics, and IT teams to drive results through analysis and implementation of underwriting business strategies. Additionally, this position will provide underwriting support and may assist the Underwriting Director with referrals and technical analysis and training.

Essential Duties:

  • Function as a subject-matter expert for the team, acting as the team liaison for any corporate underwriting or IT initiatives, such as implementation of 3rd party data integration
  • Provide leadership, technical advice, counsel, and expertise in the development of underwriting staff needed to support future business growth
  • Collaborate with the company’s Underwriting, Actuarial, Product, Systems, Claims and Legal functions on new product rollouts; act as Project Manager on tasks related to creation and launch of products and create associated documents
  • Assist Product Development/Management with Underwriting Guides, Reference Guides, etc. for various products and operations
  • Participate in forming recommendations for the strategic direction of Programs division business
  • Assist with underwriting training and development for junior level staff, and support management with assistance on underwriting referrals and program portfolio management
  • Assist Programs Division with implementation of products, IT resources, social media posts, flyers, and collaboration across divisions for cross-selling of products
  • Identify areas for process improvement, create solutions, and assist with the implementation for the overall improvement of the Division
  • Work with stakeholders to understand key metrics and how they impact the business, and implement solutions



  • Strong technical knowledge of underwriting, product design, rating and pricing, and demonstrated ability to manage books of business profitably
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and project management skills
  • High energy, with a desire to be a team player capable of interacting with a variety of individuals internally and externally
  • A positive attitude, with a sense of urgency directed toward the design of creative solutions and achieving profit and loss objectives
  • Possess an in-depth working intelligence of current business issues within the E&S industry and complex Property & Casualty portfolios
  • Ability to analyze data and results to make recommendations to underwriting leaders to assist with profitability objectives
  • Ability to maintain productive relationships with a wide variety of internal and external customers, while ensuring excellent customer service and response time
  • “Hands-on” ability to direct, manage and influence the Programs’ divisions direction to support product design and distribution required as outlined by the strategies and underwriting philosophy
  • Strong analytical, Excel and PowerBI skills needed to evaluate book performance and make recommendations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in underwriting and operations with extensive experience in the underwriting and marketing of products
