GBLI is seeking candidates for the following position which can be performed either hybrid or fully remote:

Renewal Underwriter

The Renewal Underwriter will hold the responsibility to underwrite renewal commercial property and general liability risks under moderate supervision.  Acting primarily as a referral underwriter, the Renewal Underwriter will review a high volume of referred risks within specific broadening authority levels and accept or decline accordingly

Essential Duties & Functions

  • Monitor and adhere to company underwriting rules and guidelines as well as insurance laws and regulations.  
  • Discuss performance and opportunities with new business underwriters for growth and improvement.  
  • Maintain excellent contact with assigned agents and deliver feedback on submissions constructively and with tact.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-6+ years Property and Casualty Underwriting experience required including expertise in general liability risks
  • Ability to underwrite, price and negotiate business in accordance with established guidelines, procedures and strategies.
  • Ability to analyze individual risks for profit opportunity and provide underwriting solutions, through creativity and vision to design coverage that can appropriately respond to a specific line of business, class or customer need.
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills, with strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and time management quality.
  • High energy, with a desire to be a team player capable of interacting with a variety of individuals internally and externally.
  • Proven ability at negotiating and reviewing contracts and policy terms.
  • A positive attitude, with a sense of urgency directed toward the design of creative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience underwriting property and Excess and Surplus lines 
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Professional designations (CPCU, AU, ETC.)
  • Prior experience interacting with brokers
  • Prior insurance rating experience
