Our Team

Glassdoor’s Economic Research team ( is our company’s think tank. We develop insights and commentary about the labor market leveraging tens of millions of real-time job postings on Glassdoor. Plus we unearth unique insights on wages, hiring, interviewing, and company culture based on our database of proprietary user-generated content -- including millions of salary reports and company reviews for more than 740,000 employers.  

This Position

This position will work closely with our Chief Economist. Your mission is to help us discover insights that help employers recruit talent, write about trends in the labor market on our blog, and be the go-to expert on data, SQL code, and methodologies. In this role, you’ll work with a range of teams throughout Glassdoor including Corporate Communications,  Marketing, Sales, and Product teams to name a few.

About You

You should have a balanced skill set -- you’ll need to be a data expert, but also a good communicator with a passion for economics. An ideal candidate would have a background in public policy, think tanks, or consulting. You should be able to do your own data analysis, and write clear and simple copy like a journalist when needed.


  • Help prepare analyses, blog posts, and other materials for the Glassdoor’s Economic Research team.
  • Pull data from our SQL databases, and process it using standard statistical software like R, Python, Stata, and/or Excel.  
  • Work with Glassdoor’s Corporate Communications team to develop sound methodologies for our employer awards programs, and be the team’s all-around data expert.
  • Work with Glassdoor’s Chief Economist to develop newsworthy and valuable ideas about jobs, wages and hiring and support his research and data analysis.
  • Prepare data visualizations and charts using Tableau, R Shiny or other software that we can share on our research blog and in presentations.
  • Write and proofread blog posts and other articles with help from our economists, data scientists, and PR experts.


  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, public policy or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, public policy, data journalism, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English. Ability to write clean, simple and interesting copy (please be prepared to share writing samples).
  • Demonstrated ability to pull and process data using tools like SQL and Excel. Ability to do simple data analysis in R, Stata, or Python (please be prepared to share some code you’ve written, or a model you’ve built).
  • Ability to work fast and meet deadlines. Work in a dynamic, informal small team to generate ideas, execute them, and move analysis and articles out the door quickly.
  • You should be comfortable in an extroverted role. You’ll be working in-person with our dynamic teams, in an open-office and fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to work from Glassdoor’s beautiful waterfront headquarters in Mill Valley, California.
