POSITION: Sr. Manager of Inventory Control


REPORTS TO:  Director of Inbound Supply Chain


Position Summary:

The Senior Manager of Inventory Control is responsible for developing best practice inventory systems in Manufacturing and Warehouse operations. The Senior Inventory Control Senior Manager will plan, organize, direct, manage, and evaluate departments responsible for inventory and implement the inventory management policies.

  • Plan, organize, direct, manage and evaluate the inventory management activities and budget of an organization
  • Develop and communicate inventory management policies and procedures. Map all processes and actively improve processes, accountability and communication around processes
  • Develop a program to change culture around inventory across the organization.
  • Direct and manage corporate governance and regulatory compliance procedures related to inventory management operations
  • Monitor inventory levels and inventory movement using manual or computerized inventory systems
  • Review compiled inventory reports (quantity, type and value of materials, and equipment and stock on hand)
  • Supervise and lead an Inventory Control team of Exempt and Non-exempt employees Guide and direct staff and set performance standards for duties assigned, monitoring and evaluating performance to ensure proper use of tools and equipment, and job performance (supervisor must be able to perform duties and tasks assigned)
  • Schedule shifts and evaluate workload; assign tasks, plan work assignments, and equipment allocation to meet operational and production needs daily
  • Schedule, delegate and follow up on cycle counts, shorts, out of stocks as required
  • Oversee all manufacturing related inventory documents and accounts
  • Create, analyze, maintain and distribute inventory reports for review by upper management
  • Analyze and develop standards and processes covering days on hand, end of life and other inventory matters
  • Perform root cause analysis on inventory discrepancies by interacting with team members and other departments
  • Ensure timely daily and periodic inventory audits as scheduled or required
  • Utilize Warehouse Management System (SAP), Business Objects (BO) or other systems for daily tasks/reports
  • Ability to learn various functions outside of Inventory Control for a holistic view of Manufacturing Operations


Key ingredients –

  • Bachelor’s Degree or related discipline and/or demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities through previous experience and education
  • Seven plus (7+) years Management experience, preferably in leading other supervisors and members of management
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Inventory Control and management experience, SAP would be helpful
  • Broad based Inventory best practice knowledge, ability to map and document processes
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office suite; with advanced knowledge of MS Excel
  • Strong research and analytical skills required
  • Experienced with driving warehouse machinery like Hilow’s, Cherry pickers, Floor jacks etc.
  • Prior work experience in a Food Distribution, Grocery Warehouse / Supermarket or Commissary ideal
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and / or Holidays and be able to keep a flexible schedule during high volume production periods

  • Leadership ability, taking charge to direct, train, and motivate the Warehouse team
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce all safety rules and GMP regulations and FreshDirect policies
  • Experienced with resource allocation, organizing work flow and coordination of people and resources
  • Working knowledge of a SAP or like ERP / Warehouse Management System
  • Must be a strong problem solver, with the ability to initiate solutions, demonstrate follow-through, accuracy in tasks and objectives
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English - Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
