Description

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for discovering and capturing new partnership opportunities for the company. Looking for a collaborative team player with strong product instincts, excellent speaking and writing abilities, and deep relationships within the developer community. The right person will have direct experience with video game developer relations and exceptional skill in interacting and winning favor with the world’s leading independent developers. The candidate must have a thorough knowledge and genuine interest in mobile gaming with a strong work ethic. He or she will identify and originate publishing partnership opportunities, drive and influence greenlight decisions, and secure valuable new properties while contributing to the company’s growth.

 

Responsibilities

Developer Outreach

  • Discover – identify new business opportunities to grow the company’s product pipeline: conduct research on prospective independent game developer partners; apply a data-driven approach using available market data sources.
  • Prioritize – filter prospects according to the company’s selection criteria; focus resources on the most attractive partnership opportunities; prioritize and manage the flow of incoming proposals.
  • Sell – market and promote the company’s services to the independent development community; in competitive bids for attractive properties deliver formal presentations to convince top developers of the company’s superior partnership offering.
  • Track – develop and maintain records of independent development teams; formalize information retention and process for documenting developer visits, e.g. through an internal database and regular, transparent updates to the company’s executive team.

Opportunity Origination

  • Evaluate – gather, synthesize and review game assets and other relevant materials from prospective developer partners; solicit internal feedback and collaborate with internal business partners to evaluate opportunities.
  • Analyze – work with game managers to formulate underlying assumptions and run deal models to quantify projected game P&Ls.
  • Build consensus – organize and lead pitching of promising games to the company’s executive team.
  • Summarize – create and deliver summary presentations incorporating game information, market data, developer background, quantitative and qualitative deal rationale, and other relevant information.
  • Drive growth – drive weekly pipeline meetings; rally support for key titles; propel expansion opportunities and other initiatives that contribute to the grown of the company.

Deal Execution

  • Formulate, structure and draft key terms (e.g. revenue share, minimum guarantees, marketing commitments) through discussions with the company’s executive team, analysis of alternatives and financial modeling.
  • Manager the deal completion process by collaborating with all stakeholders, ensuring best practices, complying with the company’s policies and procedures, and obtaining required approvals and final sign-off.
  • Manage partnership handover to game managers; ensure key deal terms and deal sensitivities are understood by all.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Deep and far-reaching relationships in the game developer community within a minimum of 5 years industry experience, preferably in develop relations roles.
  • Strong passion, knowledge, and experience in free-to-play mobile gaming.
  • Polished professional with exceptional presentation and sales skills.
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a love for games.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Energetic, action-oriented self-starter that works well independently but seeks direction when appropriate.
  • Collaborative team player, adept at building relationships across organizations and managing interdisciplinary teams on projects.
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate persuasively with all external business partners and internal collaborators.
  • Respect - this role must collaborate with, earn the respect of, and cultivate strong relationships with the world’s best independent game developers.
  • International work experience a strong plus; extensive domestic and international travel is required for this role.
  • Knowledge of legal contracts, negotiating techniques, and mobile game business models.
  • Passion for evolution of the game industry.
