Benefits Manager (Direct Hire)

Position Summary:
The Benefits Manager is responsible for managing corporate health and welfare plans and programs in support of the company’s business and total rewards strategy. Accountable for all aspects of non-bargaining plans and programs and oversight of administrative services provided for some of the company’s bargaining unit plans. Maintain compliance of all benefit plans and programs. Manage staff and vendor/ party relationships and partner with HR and other company colleagues to ensure timely and accurate administration, record retention, renewals, enrollments, funding, audits, testing, reporting and communications. 

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Manage relationships with all benefit plan/program vendors/third party administrators/service providers
  • Ensure compliance of the company’s benefits plans, policies and procedures to maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations 
  • Partner with HR colleagues, ERISA counsel, internal legal staff, Treasury, Finance and Payroll functions as required to maintain plan operations, timely plan funding and accounting/reporting requirements 
  • Ensure resolution of any errors and employee issues related to health and welfare benefit plan administration
  • Ensure the effectiveness of all communications to inform and educate employees about the company’s benefit plans and programs
  • Evaluate and recommendation changes and improvements in benefit plans and programs 
  • Maintain accurate understanding of and ensure compliance with all benefit plan provisions 
  • Ensure that benefit plan records, data and documents are maintained in current and good order
  • Participate in the budget allocation of benefits plans 
  • Serve as the company’s benefit plans and programs subject matter expert for company colleagues in HR, Finance, Treasury, Legal, etc.
  • Participate in employee education 
  • Manage/oversee wellness plans and programs
  • Manage benefits due diligence efforts as needed for M&A activities  

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • CEBS certification preferred.
  • 8 - 10 years managing corporate benefit plans and programs including plan design and administration
  • Knowledge of benefit laws and regulations, including ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA and ACA
  • Knowledge of self-insured and fully-insured health plan administration
  • Knowledge/experience with public company reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects across multiple company sites/locations
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of benefit plan audit and all compliance filings/reporting
  • Oracle ERP experience preferred
