Highlights of the job

We are hiring a Full Time, Permanent position in EPCOR’s Utility department emphasizing on the Wastewater Collections system within Arizona’s Central Division.

Reporting to our Sun City office in Sun City, AZ, this individual performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Wastewater Collection systems and associated Lift Stations within the district.

What you’d be responsible for

Installation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems including sewer laterals, mains, taps, main cleaning and clearing blockages, roach control, and raising/lowering/repairs of manholes. 

Provide assistance to Field Service Representative team regarding sewer and/or collections related complaints. Possible sewer line blockage locating when needed and performs other work as required.        

What’s required to be successful?

High school diploma or equivalent.  

 

Computer literacy and proficiency required for completing service orders in customer information system. Ability to complete reports legibly and accurately on paper and with Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to read and interpret blueprints of wastewater collection systems, service orders, and maintenance manuals. Ability to code time card with up to 50 separate account codes. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and regulations. Ability to work independently when given written and oral instructions. 

 

Ability to perform sewer blockage assessments; ability to operate (or learn how to operate) motor vehicles such as backhoes, mini-vac unit, Vactor truck, and/or similar equipment. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external customers.

Other important facts about this job

Candidate must have thorough understanding (and/or willingness to lean), of wastewater collection systems.  Must have knowledge of use of tools and equipment used in the wastewater field. 

 

Minimum requirements for each grade:

 
Utility Worker-in-Training: Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license with good driving record at time of hire. Must achieve ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution and/or Grade 1 Wastewater Collection certifications within a year of start date.

Utility Worker I: Minimum of one (1) year of qualifying work experience in wastewater collection field or equivalent.  ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Collection certifications required.

 

Utility Worker II: Minimum of two (2) years qualifying work experience in wastewater collection field or equivalent.  ADEQ Grade 2 Wastewater Collection certifications required.

 

Note:

  • Applicants with Vactor truck operations and CMOM program will be given preference.
  • Applicants with CDL Class A will also be given preference.
  • Applicants with an ADEQ Certification in Wastewater Treatment in addition to Collections certification will be given preference.

 

 

There are periods of continuous stooping, bending, walking, shoveling and sweeping. May be exposed to insects, animals, reptiles, dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be mobile and agile to make repairs in tight places. Requires strength to lift heavy objects up to 70 pounds. Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying climatic conditions.

 

Must be able to tolerate extreme heat. This position is subject to callback, overtime and weekend/holiday emergency call outs and on call duty.
