We are hiring a full time, permanent Manager, Franchise Engineering position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

In this role, you are accountable for the performance of design and engineering functions within EPCOR’s Electricity Operations. You ensure that all health, safety, environmental, operational, reliability and customer requirements are identified and addressed and that project and program portfolios are accurate and delivered on time. This includes interacting and setting expectations with customers that may be affected by EPCOR’s work.

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Providing input into the Electricity Distribution Engineering Business Plan, ensuring an understanding of the Capital Plan throughout Distribution and ongoing effective positioning and relationships between other positions in Distribution and Transmission and the rest of EPCOR.
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing engineering processes and practices to comply with policies, standards, regulatory and code requirements and mitigation of risks.
  • Establishing, monitoring, measuring and reporting performance metrics, and analyzing and identifying issues impacting optimal performance. 
  • Establishing initiatives for continuous improvement around design quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensuring that Franchise Engineering develops, completes or assists in the timely response to customer issues, as required, and develops strong relationships with industry partners.
  • Identifying and recommending the necessary budget requirements for the provision of engineering resources, process improvements, technology upgrades and design improvements to improve safety and reliability, as well as determining optimal numbers for recruitment, retention and development.
  • Establishing and monitoring annual budgets that reflect Electricity Operations long-term plan, regulatory approvals and operational needs. 
  • Facilitating and encouraging strong cross-functional relationships within Electricity Operations. 

 

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Degree in Engineering or a Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute.
    • With a Degree in Engineering, we require a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
    • With a Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering, we require a Professional Licensee (Eng.) designation.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical distribution systems, including design, construction and engineering experience in Aerial and Underground Distribution systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Aerial and Underground Distribution system design and construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques.
    • Alberta Electric Utility Code and CSA Standard requirements.
    • Aerial and Underground Distribution system engineering standards, material specifications and engineered guidelines.
  • Experience in:
    • Managing staff and/or large project teams.
    • Designing complex distribution utility construction projects with increasing responsibility.
    • Planning and executing new initiatives and implementing new processes.
    • The design and construction of on-site distribution engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Communicate technical or complex issues in a clear and succinct way.
    • Work effectively as part of a larger team within a dynamic environment.
    • Develop, nurture and manage external and internal relationships.
    • Understand and manage complex budgets relative to this area of responsibility.
  • Strong diagnostic and decision-making skills required with the ability to manage complex problems and develop innovative solutions where there are not clear processes or parameters in place.
  • Leadership and facilitation skills to advise and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance personal effectiveness in both the technical and project/portfolio management functions and in operational understanding.
