Position Overview:

We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in Fort Erie, Ontario. This is an hourly position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities in a safe and professional manner
  • Operate heavy equipment to move, load and unload cargo
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment
  • Be responsible for the inspection of provided equipment, reporting any necessary repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors
  • Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments and ensure the heavy equipment is running properly
  • Follow our site rules, operating standards, and procedures
  • Participate in our 100% safety, zero tolerance organizational policy
  • Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately
  • Arrive on site on time and be willing to work on a variety of different tasks throughout the day
  • Be prepared to complete heavy equipment operations in a variety of weather conditions

Required Skills

  • Must be proficient at operating Heavy Equipment (Excavator, Bulldozer) to complete a variety of tasks (Bulk Excavation, Loading Trucks, fine grade work, trenching, Backfilling, and etc.)
  • Experience of heavy equipment operation in heavy civil construction
  • Ability to work in a team environment in a positive manner, taking instructions from supervision on site and carrying out tasks as instructed unsupervised
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine maintenance (Inspections, greasing, fueling)
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks outside in all types of weather
  • A willingness to occasionally work long hours, evenings, and weekends
  • Experience of heavy equipment operation in heavy civil construction; bridge experience considered an asset

Qualifications:

  • Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record and means of travel to construction sites
  • High school diploma level education or equivalent
  • Heavy equipment operator ticket
  • Red Seal Certification considered an asset
  • Any additional construction training including- MOL Step up to Safety, WHMIS, First Aid, Forklift Tickets, Fall Arrest, Working at Heights, Confined Space entry, Hoisting and Rigging, Elevating Work platform, Traffic Control/Signaling, Excavation Safety or others is an asset
