Position Overview 

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the successful candidate will direct field construction activities and personnel to ensure that the assigned areas of responsibility meet project budget, schedule, and safety objectives. Projects will vary in size, and location throughout Canada. The Superintendent has frequent contact with clients, client representatives, union representatives, and professional and technical support personnel. 

The projects will vary geographically depending on the company's Work On Hand. You will be flexible, willing to travel and/or relocate based on the needs of the company.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for Health & Safety of work crews
  • Perform Daily “Tool Box Meetings” with the assistance of Worker Site Safety Representative to ensure all job specific safety hazards are identified, outlined and mitigated
  • Enforce that all PPE and H&S regulations are being met by all employees on site.

 Planning and Scheduling

  • Analyze and understand project schedule prepared by PM
  • Assist FE in preparing 3 week look ahead schedules. At this time all required equipment, labor, and material required for the upcoming activities should be outlined
  • Relay to the PM and ongoing delays or potential future delays as soon as possible and assist in developing potential mitigation measures

Procurement

  • Outline to FE all required equipment, labor, and material a minimum 1 week in advance

 Construction

  • Review and analyze all contract drawings and specifications
  • Review and analyze all shop drawings prior to implementation on site
  • Manage all foremen and workers on site so that they are aware of their task each day and ensure that the work is executed. Daily tasks are to be prioritized to ensure the schedule critical path is maintained
  • Manages man hours for each task as per budget
  • Continuously monitor the site to ensure all workers remain on task and maintain productivity
  • Perform layout of any contract dimension; including, but not limited to: limits of demolition, grading, formwork, etc.
  • Relay any technical problems regarding the contract documents to FE
  • Identify any changes in the scope of work to the FE/PM

 Quality Control

  • Ensure all work performed on site meets quality standards set out by contract documents
  • Ensure individuals implement and follow all QC measures and all QC requirements are maintained during the life of the project

 Documentation

  • Assist FE in preparing Daily Work Records (DWR) for each day
  • Maintain a separate project journal for cross referencing DWR.
  • Signing Authority for Site Instruction Notices 
  • Reporting of time and coding with FE

Experience and Education Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 5 years as a superintendent in heavy civil construction
  • Current Driver's License with clean driving record
  • Must possess all skills of a lower rated position including Foreman and Journeyman/Carpenter
  • Red/Gold Seal Certification considered an asset
  • Proof of training/certification to be provided upon offer of employment
Compensation and Benefits
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada for anyone other than current employer
  • Compensation Commensurate with Experience
  • Compensation will be based on experience and knowledge of the Heavy Civil Industry
  • Consideration will be given to Site Superintendents who bring an experienced team
