Position Overview                               

As a member of the manufacturing team, the Manufacturing Process Engineer will assume a critical role in developing processes and implementation of systems to ensure product quality, optimize efficiency, and value-driven cost controls.  They will assist in evaluation and implementation new equipment, infrastructure upgrades, and ensuring quality and safety across all manufacturing locations.  Ideal candidates will have experience ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF).

Essential Functions

  • Own all aspects of manufacturing process engineering including systems implementation, analysis of existing operations, and process improvements
  • In conjunction with the COO, ensure efficient systems are being employed, SOPs are being written, and the manufacturing design can be properly executed
  • Ensure manufacturing infrastructure is optimizing line time, reducing waste, and minimizing downtime while maintaining quality and safety standards
  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors to plan, budget, and execute equipment purchases and infrastructure upgrades
  • Ensure safety, quality, and efficiency requirements are being met by working in conjunction with the manufacturing, maintenance, safety, quality, and operations teams
  • Work in conjunction with manufacturing, maintenance, safety, quality, and operations team to ensure quality and efficiency requirements are being met
  • Conduct root cause analysis for engineering problems involving equipment, output, and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions
  • In conjunction with the R&D Food Innovations team, ensure manufacturing operations are able to support new product development
  • Perform cost-benefit and ROI analysis on both upgrade and cost-savings opportunities
  • Remain current on equipment innovations throughout the industry
  • Develop and maintain accurate and complete specifications and SOPs for all engineering components
  • Work Safety – Ensures that all tasks and functions of position are performed in a safe manner at all times and that all procedures and requirements are properly followed to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Food Safety/Quality – Responsible for food safety and quality as well as reporting food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, food science, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering in an SQF audited food facility
  • Knowledge of chocolate or confections technology and supplies of equipment is strongly preferred
  • SQF experience and working knowledge of ERP systems is strongly preferred
  • Experience with equipment calibration and maintenance monitoring
  • Self-starter who is capable of managing a portfolio of project assignments with minimal supervision
  • Analytical and logical problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills
