Position:               Math Tutor - Part-time (Chicago, Roseland Campus)

 

Work Site:             Bridgescape Learning Academy-Roseland Campus; Chicago, IL

 

Job Type:     Part Time (25 hours per week)

 

Supervisor:           Program Director

 

Job Summary:

The Bridgescape Math Tutor is responsible to provide math tutoring sessions with students. The Tutor will work with teachers in reviewing student achievement and follow teacher directions on content of student study sessions.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current University student or high school graduate with two years college experience
  • BCI and FBI fingerprints done within a week of employment
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of students
  • Experience working with at-risk student population in some capacity preferred
  • Previous Tutoring experiences preferred

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring before, during, and/or after school
  • Lead energetic tutoring sessions while setting goals and expectations
  • Knowledge of subject matter
  • Facilitate small cooperative learning groups
  • Provide attendance and feedback to teachers and parents when requested
  • Develop a tutoring plan with teacher that fits student’s individual needs
  • Assess student progress
  • Offer assistance with developing study strategies
  • Follow school and district policies and procedures
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Serve as positive role model for students working to improve academically
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Skills and Knowledge:

 

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, engaging and encouraging teaching style
  • Highly motivated educator/child advocate
  • Knowledge of Common Core mathematical shifts and practices
  • Interest in helping others learn in groups of 2-5 students
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to utilize technology for communication and instruction to work with students
  • Creative and persistent problem-solver
  • Ability to use organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision
  • Proficient use of the computer
  • Maintain confidentiality
