Job Summary:

The English Teacher is responsible for the daily instructional delivery of curriculum, assessment, and classroom management that aligns with the school’s vision, mission, and values while also meeting state and national academic standards. The role will be responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents. The teacher regularly meets with students to advise and plan for students individual learning plans, providing coaching and mentoring in an advisory capacity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio English Teacher Certification
  • Highly Qualified Teacher
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of three to five years’ of exemplary teaching experience in the classroom
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of students
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience working with at-risk student population in some capacity preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement student instruction and assessment in English to achieve English Language Arts curriculum objectives
  • Work effectively with small groups of English students at all levels
  • Accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports
  • Identify and select appropriate English instructional materials aligned to content standards
  • Implement relevant information from research and professional literature on best practices in instruction
  • Participate in English professional development as opportunities become available
  • Analyze formal and informal data and accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports regarding student instruction and achievement
  • Develop short term and annual goals, based on identified student needs, that reflects national school counseling standards and state program components related to guidance curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Program Director

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of state standards, testing requirements, and graduation requirements within the core content
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and building Program Director
  • Working knowledge and comfort level with instructional technology
  • Experienced in collaborating with teacher teams and adapting work to the needs of teachers and students
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in English Language Arts
  • Knowledge and demonstration of using innovative skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem solving, communicating, collaborating, and finding and evaluating information)
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to utilize technology for communication and instruction to work with parents, students, and other service agencies
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision while prioritizing workload
  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to continuously improve student and adult learning
  • A working knowledge of current research and resources in English Language Arts instruction
  • Knowledge and experience using technology for communication, data analysis, gathering and organizing information for presentations
  • Maintain confidentiality
