Description

Echodyne is seeking a Sr. Technical Product Manager (STPM) who will leverage the company’s innovative radar vision technology to develop compelling product offerings. As a nexus for our product development efforts, you will: 1) work closely with customers to understand and document their needs, 2) understand the marketplace and competitive offerings, and 3) work with the CTO/engineering team to translate, and prioritize customer requirements to ensure that our products garner great adoption in the marketplace.

Working closely with sales and marketing you will help communicate product capabilities, roadmaps, and detailed competitive differentiation. The STPM will also act as the release manager for all new product launches by collaborating closely with engineering program management and manufacturing to manage and track overall product schedules from design inception to production launch. Echodyne is a fast-growing start-up company, and as the first TPM you will be expected to create and establish internal TPM processes and standards with the potential to build out and manage a team of TPMs over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market and competitive research to discover problems in the market that are urgent and pervasive that match up well with our core competencies as a company and establish a cadence to brief executive leadership on your findings
  • Spend significant time with customers to conduct needs analysis, create user/buyer personas/scenarios, and a comprehensive set of validated requirements.
  • Act as the “product owner” for an agile development team, authoring specific, actionable stories and facilitating the efficient development and release of features
  • Proactively and clearly collaborate and communicate feature goals, priorities, scope, status and more with teams across the company
  • Lead and manage product life-cycle activities for each product by creating product and innovation roadmaps that over time lead to product portfolios that will form the company’s major lines of business.
  • Create and drive product management milestones, plans, key deliverables, and KPIs.
  • Work with internal testing resources to create compelling demonstrations that showcase capabilities and features
  • Select beta-unit customers to perform user acceptance testing and validation of features
  • Develop and manage plans for certification and compliance requirements and identify potential risk issues with corrective actions in design and specification.
  • Create and manage all necessary processes, meetings, documentation, etc. for managing all TPM activities.
  • Work closely with Sales/Marketing to define/enhance the company’s product positioning and effectively communicate product capabilities and key differentiators
  • Act as the release manager (with launch checklist) for each product release to coordinate the activities of engineering, manufacturing, sales, and marketing to successfully launch new products
  • Support win/loss assessments to understand the key reason for the customer decision

Required skills / experience:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, physics, or other major requiring engineering core courses.
  • Strong technical skills or experience in a technically complex product development environment (e.g. hardware or electronics a big plus.)
  • Experience successfully navigating between the various stakeholders involved with product definition to deliver products that are successful in the marketplace
  • Strong understanding and deep experience in advanced PM processes, tools, techniques, documentation, etc.
  • Be data-driven so that the right decisions can be made
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing
  • A demonstrated history of becoming an expert in an unfamiliar domain
  • Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business and how to optimize it
  • Be familiar with Agile product development

Desired skills / experience (looking for one or more as a complement to the core skills):

  • MBA in addition to technical undergraduate degree preferred
  • Technical background in sensors (such as radar, computer vision, LIDAR, etc) or robotics or avionics or RF electronics a big plus
  • Experience with products sold in high-volume and with a global footprint
  • PM team management experience a plus although there will be no initial direct report management responsibilities
  • Knowledge of and experience with the pragmatic marketing framework for product management
  • Familiarity and experience with SCRUM/Kanban agile product development methods
  • Experience with certification and regulatory requirements such as DO 178B and ISO 26262

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information systems or equivalent computer technology field.
  • 10+ years of technology related work experience with 5+ years in product management
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills
  • Eligibility to handle export controlled data (ITAR, EAR).
  • Ability/willingness to travel 20-30%
