This high level, broad spectrum position is primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements company wide on large design-build, construction, environmental remediation, disaster response, and munitions response projects as defined by Company standards, governmental regulations, and contractual obligations. This position may oversee loss prevention in concurrent multiple or large projects encompassing a number of subcontractors. Position may be filled in our Denver CO, San Antonio, TX, or other ECC office locations.  Travel is required. In this role you will:

  • Oversee Corporate Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs
  • Maintain and update Corporate Health / Safety procedures
  • Prepare and/or approve Accident Prevention Plans (APP)
  • Promote health and safety programs at project sites
  • Oversee the completion of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) preparation and acceptance
  • Facilitate health and safety training for Company staff, subcontractors, and any parties required to participate to ensure achievement of exceptional health & safety performance including developing training content and delivering course information
  • Author health and safety related documentation (reports, logs, records, and site specific risk mitigation plans), completing required information for daily reports and client communications in a timely and accurate manner
  • Develop and manage air monitoring programs for projects
  • Ensure that all documentation is organized and uploaded to the project portal SharePoint site
  • Provide oversight to subcontractors, clients, and project team members to ensure that project activities are completed according to applicable APP(s)
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess health and safety plan adherence as well as identify potential loss and risk
  • Take appropriate actions to prevent loss and mitigate risk in accordance to Company standards and practices
  • Ensure that deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner and to acceptable measures
  • Represent the Company in a positive and professional manner in client and regulatory agency interactions, serving as the primary point of contact for site health & safety
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure that health and safety activities are incorporated effectively into project plans
  • Report health and safety incidents to the Company Incident Database
  • Conduct related investigations thoroughly, completing associated documentation accurately
  • Ensure implementation and documentation of corrective actions
  • Verify implementation and close-out corrective actions
  • Provide mentoring, direction, and subject matter expertise to Health & Safety Supervisors and/or junior level staff
  • Anticipate staffing needs and work with HR and Project Management to identify and hire Health / Safety personnel as needed
  • As requested, participate in employment interviews and make hiring recommendations. As needed, provide performance feedback regarding junior level staff
  • Interface effectively with senior management, escalating issues appropriately and making recommendations regarding policy & procedure
  • Review of qualifications of subcontractors
  • In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of the position
Requirements:
  • Certified Safety Professionals - CSP (MUST be a CSP) 
  • Construction industry experience
  • The ability to communicate in written and oral formats with diplomacy and tact
  • An aptitude for exercising independent thinking and reasoning
  • Demonstrated success in teaching others health and safety concepts and requirements
  • Experience managing a team of direct reports
  • Skilled in leading others without formal reporting authority
  • Proven knowledge of US Army Corps of Engineers EM 385 1-1
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
  • Eight years of progressive work experience in a position directly related to health and safety to include regional or corporate level management
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety or related field is required. Equivalent additional experience may be considered
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • The ability to work schedules which vary in duration and location
  • Intermittent exposure to repetitive motions of the wrists or hands
  • The ability to view a computer monitor and distinguish figures or symbols
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or similar equipment found on a construction job site
  • Walking for an extended period of time
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments with hazards typically found on a construction site (moving vehicles & equipment, dust, and potentially hazardous materials) and weather conditions
  • Travel domestically and internationally to office and work site locations. Job site assignments may involve extended durations, with periodic home visits
  • Incumbents in this position must be able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Successful leadership of subcontractors and project teams in support of health & safety endeavors
  • Previous success in working effectively in a dotted line reporting structure
  • Direct responsibility for contract compliance in government construction or environmental projects (NAVFAC, USACE, AFCEE as well as federal regulations)
  • Hands-on experience in industrial hygiene monitoring and use of hazardous work permits
  • HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification and 8 Hour Refresher Certification
  • HAZWOPER Supervisor Certification
  • USACE Contractor Quality Management (CQM) Training
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification
