Mechanic (Temporary)
Description
JOB SUMMARY
This is a temporary, non-benefitted, full-time position on our Equipment Maintenance team. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on motorized equipment, gas-powered vehicles, diesel engines, and electric motors. This position will also assist in other facilities maintenance functions as well.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform preventive/periodic maintenance and inspections
• Make repairs to fuel, ignition, electrical, braking, and any/all systems associated with heavy equipment, the Zoo’s automotive/fleet vehicles, and power tools
• Repair and maintain hydraulic equipment, systems, and gates
• Conducts weekly inventory and inspections as assigned.
• Maintains tools, shop, and equipment to ensure safe working conditions
• Communicate with and assist Zoo staff and visitors as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have at least two years of hands-on experience within a mechanical field such as automotive, diesel, and heavy equipment
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be flexible, self-motivated and a team player.
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to establish and maintain an effective rapport with all levels of management, employees, and zoo guests.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above head, pull bend, climb stairs and ladders and carry up to 75lbs.
• Must be able to work holidays and weekends, along with nights and evenings as needed.
• Must be able to actively work in inclement weather.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
